Hi guys, I just got my Silverado 2500HD LTZ after trading in my 2014 Sierra 1500 SLT. I've noticed that when the lights are not on (I leave the knob in Auto) the interior blue lights around the radio and climate controls turn off. When I put the fog lights on or the amber running lights, it comes back on. When the blue interior lights go off and come back on, they slowly come in, like 'glow'. They dont just pop on and pop off, so that makes me think it's meant to do that? Is this normal?

Also, I read somewhere that if I wanted to install HID bulbs, I'd need to get an app on something and tell the truck they're HID's or something? Can anyone let me know if this is a thing?

Thank you all very much

First off congrats on the truck.

Second.  This site is a wealth of knowledge but, the forum sections are a good thing to be aware of.  Your 2019 is not the same truck as the section you've posted in which is 2019-current 1500 trucks on the new T1 platform.  Your truck is the 2015-2019 HD which is the K2XX platform.

Here's the forum section for 15-19 HD - 2015-2019 Silverado HD & Sierra HD - GM-Trucks.com

That said...your interior lights turning on and off.  I assume this only happens during the daytime and not night time?  If so, normal when in the AUTO lamp position.  Its possible that the lights are turning on and off depending on what the light sensor on the dash is picking up.  Turing the parks or fogs on will turn on the other dash lighting which is normal.  As for them possibly dimming, where is your dimmer wheel set to by the headlight switch?  If you leave it low at night and just leave it there all the time, the dash lights during the day may dim at times.

Lights.  No app to change what the truck knows.  No such thing that I know of with GM.  That is something with Ford and the 3rd party created FORSCAN program.  I would skip HID and get some high quality LEDs.  I've used VLED's Micro Evolution before and they are fantastic and work no issue.  The one caveat with LED?  They can act strange with the daytime running lamp function.  So during the day, I would not use AUTO which will allow the DRLs (the low beam headlights) to be lit with lower power for DRL mode.  I'd turn the lights off or set it to park or set it to park and turn the fogs on.

Newdude,

thank you very much for your reply. I apologize I’m in the wrong thread! My bad, and thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I’ve managed to find some LED’s and installed them this morning. They’ve made a huge difference! I wanted to go with the GTR Ultra2 but I can’t spend close to $1k on lights at this point so I got another cheaper option. We’ll see how long they last.

anyway, I should get off here and onto the correct forum. Again, sorry and thank you.
