What I have currently is a 2007 Suburban LT, 188k, I have had it for 6 months and so far I have done a New trans, trans lines, radiator, water pump, alternator, battery, brakes, rotors, coils, plugs, wires, ALL fluids (and I mean EVERY fluid has just been changed).  Good Michelin LT tires, Trailer brake that I have never used (prev owner), plug in AFM disabler, new wipers all the way around, no cracks in glass, back up cam, Kenwood head unit.  Interior is pretty clean!  I just replaced drivers seat cover and center console.  Heated front seats. No rips/ tears, etc.  Carpets are not perfect but for almost 20 years it is in decent shape.  Everything works, all the 4WD modes work, no check engine lights, TPMS lights, etc.  Solid rig mechanically.  I just completed a trip from CO to GA and back, zero issues but cosmetically, she is a little rough.

Cons:  Some hail (mostly on hood).
From the previous owner, it looks like someone did some really bad paint work on passenger side rear door and rear panel (clear is pealing).  There is some very light surface rust at the very bottom of the passenger side rear door  (from the bad paint prep) and a tiny spot above rear wheel well.  No rust underneath.  Corners scraped (previous owner).  Dash is cracking like all the others but it does have the fabric dash pad on it.

This is a second vehicle for us, think a "winter vehicle" for Colorado on the nasty days, daily driver through the winter.  I also use this for my moto days and mountain bike rides.  Offroad at best is very short gravel roads to the trail heads.

I would like to have something similar but maybe in better condition cosmetically, lower miles???

I came across a 1 owner 2019 Suburban LT Z71 46k miles for $35k at a local dealer.  Carfax shows oil done every 5-6k miles, no accidents.

I know this has the "dreaded 8 speed transmission", but I have had 2 Silverados same generation with zero issues.  (I keep up on maintenance).

Thoughts on price?

Is 2019 an ok year, any issues to look out for other than possible Trans and DOD?

I was not really looking for black but it has all the other boxes checked.  Thank you all in advance!

The newer the better in my opinion for those trucks. The 2015's had some issues that's for sure but from what I've seen the 2017+ are pretty good trucks. Sure there is a bad apple in there sometimes but things are ironed out pretty well by 2019. I have no idea if that price is good or not being that I'm not in the market for that sort of truck and we live many states away, so that price could be good or bad here.

If if it's got good records, that is a big plus for it. Change the fluids or make sure it's got the new 8 speed fluid in it. I just don't like black trucks, probably my only negative towards that truck.

Thank you for that!  I am with you on the color.  I was not wanting black but this one does tick all the other boxes.  I will think on it some more.  Thank you again.

I have a different take. It’s an extra vehicle for bad weather. You’ve done most of the work on the vehicle. 35k is a lot of money for an extra vehicle if it’s not a toy. You don’t say if you haul lots of people. But that kind of money you’re in new mid sized truck territory. I’ve been faced with a similar scenario. I rather have a couple of older less expensive vehicles around. I would have to guess living in Texas I have lots of lower mileage older vehicles to choose from than aren’t weather beaten. If I was considering 35K to spend on a vehicle you are considering. I’d think about a new or certified pre owned mid sized pickup. And keep the current one.

Looking at your stable, I'm not sure how the vehicle you're looking at would serve as a secondary to the 2018 truck compared to using the older suburban as one. Personally I wouldn't be looking at another vehicle to use as a 'weather beater' that's value is similar to my primary.

My experience has been that it is never been a mileage issue versus condition to a used vehicle. A good condition high mileage vehicle has always been more valuable that a low mileage beat up, neglected, wrecked, lemon, etc.

Saying all that... I think a more careful evaluation of what you want/need out of your vehicles would be best before spending 35k. For example, if the older Suburban meets your secondary needs, sell the 2018 put that with the 35k and you would have lots of options. Alternatively, the 2018 might be nearing secondary status, sell the old suburban and put that with the 35k and buy new primary.

When it comes to the 8 speed I liked the one I had in my 2015. It gave me an issue where after the truck would set for 8 or more hours it would hesitate to go into drive and when it engaged it gave a decent clunk. They replaced the transmission in it, but 3k miles later it had the exact same issue again. GM wouldn't fix it again so I traded in the truck.

If that's a 5.3 it has the 6 speed.  The 6 speed is very problematic 2015-2020.  They wipe out torque converters and fluid pumps.  First thing I'd do to that is either update the transmission thermostat to the lower temp one.

Thank you all for your thoughts!  Just want to close this one down.  I missed it.  It was gone the same day the ad was posted.  I have not seen a deal like this one since.  Thank you all again!
