So i went out started the truck and it instantly gave me low oil pressure warning and immediately started ticking for the first time. Has anyone experienced this? How effed am i?

We can only assume you checked the oil level and made sure it's not leaking right?

If that checks out then you'd have to hook up a manual pressure gauge to verify that you have no oil pressure. If that matches the warning light and gauge, then the oil pump is likely bad.

without more info it's hard to comment, but here's what i experienced... 6.0 gasser.  ticking on start up and sometimes a very rough sounding start up...  after chasing lifters and everything i could think of, I dropped the pan and the O-Ring between the oil pick up tube and the oil pump and collapsed... apparently this is not uncommon.

A $6 part and the problem was solved.  A pain in the butt, but it was that simple.
