Tailgate Band Emblem

I own a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500 and am wanting to add the tailgate band emblem to it.  Problem is, the band is about 2 1/4" too long for my tailgate.   I have two options; send it back, or reduce the length to fit my tailgate.   Anyone who is familiar with this band emblem know if it can be cut without causing damage?   It's aluminum based material, semi rigid, with adhesive backing.   Suggestions on what cutting tools to use that would be most sufficient?

You'd have to cut 1.125" off of each side which will get rid of the end border.  That would bother the hell out of me if it were my truck.  

 

IMO, I'd return it as its for the 88-98 trucks and looked good on those trucks.  

 

I would instead get the factory CHEVROLET tailgate decal they used on the 99-06 pickups.  15785770 for charcoal (for white or tan trucks) and 15785771 silver for all the other color trucks.  There might be a white one out there too but I can't find the number.

Thanks, newdude.  Yep, I ended up sending it back, couldn't deal with having to cut the ends off either.  Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it.

Just had a thought to this.  It would probably be a hard find, but one of the factory ProTec tailgates from like 02-04 would be a cool find.  Those were the composite tailgates they made for the ProTec composite bed option.  The tailgate had "CHEVROLET" embossed right in the gate.

 

Some custom work on the lettering would be sweet.  You could even paint the "band" section entirely like the 88-98 trucks.  Silver around the lettering and then black for the letters and the two bars.
