99 Silverado squeaks in reverse

My 1999 Silverado squeaks when i back up, in both 2wd and 4wd. Gentle brake pressure does not affect the noise. No noise going forward. All ideas appreciated! thanks!

If you replace the ujoint yourself, be real careful.. its easy to damage the alluminum shafts, and you have to use a ujoint that has a special coating on the caps so the metal does not react with the alluminum.

I wouldnt deal with the dealer if you dont have to. Pull the shaft and go to your local driveline shop. Where i used to work, the joints were around 20 for the allumium coated caps, and 5$ labor per joint. The dealer would probably charge you 2x-4x that if its not under warrenty

And if you delay the repair.. nothing, unless the tunion snaps off the joint because you wore it down.. then you are now out a 400-600$ driveline and whatever damage it decided to do to your truck as it exited it spinning at 2500r rounds per minute

i had mine replaced by the dealer under my gmpp. i saw the sheet with the price on it and I want to say for both rear u-joints it was $230. i have no idea if the price is different for the gmpp price as opposed to what they would charge a customer paying themselves...
