I would suspect too that going on a trip, even though you are towing, the amount of hours the engine ran would be far less than the messing around town and lots of starts with a cold engine to build up contaminants. So far I have changed my oil twice, once at 600 miles 90% and again just now at 1100 85% as I don't even have 1700 miles on it yet and all I can say is the oil didn't go down after the 1100 miles for what little data that is worth.

So far had bought some mobil 1 0W-30 that I will use for the winter and some mobil 1 5W-30 truck and suv oil ( more advertising than substance I imagine ) and both times I waited until a store had them on sale. Still not cheap though as the Costco oil is certainly the best price around that I have seen. While I buy a lot of oil through bulk suppliers for the farm, they often do not have anything special for a price and for that matter don't carry this type of oil which is odd.

I mainly run super tech synthetic from Walmart. It’s made by Warren. Same company that makes the Costco oil. Dexos1 rated. And has done exceptionally well in testing I’ve seen.

My truck(s) go from short hops to the store and lumber yard to 1100 mile each way trips. Both are tough on oil. The last trip was over 3000 miles total with some day trips during that time, probably 80 % of it towing. FWIW, I didnt have to add any oil before, during or after the trip.

I still wonder if GM made a slight change to a component in the engine from the first model years to more recently, all it would take is a change in ring design or tension, or the pcv oil separator baffling to make a difference in oil consumption. Having said that, I recall comments from a couple of youtubers that had first year L8T engines which is not much of a sample, but saying their engine used oil and had to add between changes but they also happened to be going by their oil life monitor and even running that out ... then changing the oil. And I do have to wonder if that type of over use of the oil is clogging up the small holes in the side of the piston behind the oil rings and once clogged, I doubt they would just magically unclog with shorter maintenance intervals after the fact.

I believe the costco oil is about half the price that what a Mobil or Penzoil or numerous other brands are if going to a place like Canadian Tire or an automotive retailer, its a slightly easier pill to swallow when they put the oil on sale. Honestly I so rarely go into Walmart in later years that I have no idea what the Canadian price is for the Super Tech oil.

By the way some might think its odd to use the number 2 total fuel mileage average calculator to do this but I decided to use it as my oil change period guide as I zero it out at the time of the oil change and can look up the miles accumulated so far on the oil rather than reach for my maintenance history note book. I figured I really didn't need it to tell me how crappy my over all average fuel mileage is in the long term, I already expect dismal numbers there ! LOL.

Not sure about Canadian prices ( it won’t matter when you’re our 51st state) just kidding haha. But here the super tech is about 18.00usd for five quarts and Mobil one is about 26-28.00usd. It used to always be 23 but not anymore.
I will also get filters there on occasion because the fram ultra is a good filter and usually 9.97usd

I only go to walmart for oil or car care stuff with very little exception. Fishing stuff on occasion too.

I get the free oil change stickers for my window from the auto part Store for reminders. Mine is always changed way before the reminder in the truck.

Nothing would surprise me at some point, history has redrawn borders, eliminated opposition, ever since man started claiming land and that includes the lower 48.

The mobil 1 truck and suv regular price ( looking at Canadian Tire as my example ) is 57.00 for 5 quarts and at the moment its on sale for 42.00

The standard Mobil 1 regular price is 53.00 and now on sale for 38.00

We have a variety of jug sizes here depending on which oil company which makes for more confusion, the mobil product for the most part is 5 quarts which on our bottles is also marked as 4.73 litres. Then some like Penzoil or Castrol for example is a 5 litre jug and they don't say how many quarts that equates to, but there is another smaller sized jug as well that the bulk suppliers package ... its all a confusing mess and why, because Canada was forced to go metric and the US did not so our packaging is all over the place depending on if its Canada originated or if its a US company with US measurements. Anyway its not as easy to compare prices due to the varying package sizes is what I was driving at.
