95whtZR2 Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Hey guys, I have 3 sets of 454 heads, and I need to know which set is the best for a jacked up mud throwing beast. So if anyone knows of a website for me to find out what kind of heads these are then if you could share it I would be pleased. I know I got a set of Marlin heads, I think I heard that Marlin was a good brand, the other two are GM heads, any help will be appreciated... Tom
Frank S Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Here's a place that will give you some original specs which is a good starting point.
95whtZR2 Posted February 29, 2004 Author Posted February 29, 2004 Well I can repeatedly find the one with the number 3993820, but I cannot find the other GM head number anywhere : 3909802. I also can't find the Merlin heads either I am just trying to find this crap out so I can sell my buddy a set and know I still got the best set ...... Thansk frank.... Tom EDIT: I just found out that the serial number listed above is for a 396 I am the dumbest man alive!!!!!
Frank S Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 That casting code is from 1967 so they are most likely from a 396,possibly SS heads. They could even be from a Corvette with a 396 or,though slimly possible,a 427.Regardless,they are probably a very good base set to work with. Do you have any other marks on the Merlins?
95whtZR2 Posted March 1, 2004 Author Posted March 1, 2004 The merlins marks that I can find are: 1-043 , W , D29 on one and F17 on the other , and a 92 . Soon as I replied earlier I thought about switching from bb to all on that website. Then I found the 396 and edited it, I guess you were posting as I was editing. I thought the 396 was a bb, but it is a sb right? The heads all look the same size though... I feel so freakin stupid sometimes.... ughhhhhh..... Thanks a lot man... Tom
95whtZR2 Posted March 1, 2004 Author Posted March 1, 2004 Really? Cool, then atleast the other set of heads is for a bb.... Thanks bro... Tom
