My 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 elevation, less than 25k on the clock, has developed an issue with the Fuel Gauge pointer. I noticed it when I started it, when the gauges do their startup swipes, what would normally be E, it moves to the 3/4 mark, and when it's Full, the pointer points to the speedometer. Is there a way to get into it to pull the pointer off and realign it to point properly? The gauge stepper motor does do the sweeps like the other gauges, just isn't pointing where it should.

Usually when a gas gauge in any vehicle is off, it is due to a faulty sending unit in the tank. The gauge gets the signal from the sending unit. Then it moves.

If you like to run close to empty all the time, it's just a matter of time before this happens...

Did it used to point correctly?  Did someone take apart the IP and reposition the needle?

Unless someone moved the needle, repositioning it is unlikely to fix the problem, unless it's a faulty pointer and can easily rotate on the stepper motor axle.

I would start with using a bidi code reader to see what the ecm is reading for the fuel level, to know if the problem is between the fuel tank and the ecm, or the ecm and the ip.
