Well i thought i would start the school year off early and buy books wed afternoon.  3 darn books (2 of my classes luckily dont have any books) and they cost $375  :0 1 was for heat transfer, another for kinematics, and lastly for machine design.

Only 2 semesters left I keep telling myself  :P

What are you all paying?

When I was in school (2years ago) I was spending close to that too... 400-600 For Computer science books... In the end they make great weight for the back of the truck in the winter as I told my profs...  :P

My classes dont start till the 19th...I probably won't buy the books till the first test.  Seems like I don't ever use the books anyway, just notes.

Of course its not like I am taking any hard classes right now, those start next semester.

I don't even want to think about the books right now.  I just paid for my 12 credits of classes and right now I've got about 200 bucks left in my checking account, and I see that my car payment just came in the mail.  I'm definetly going to be needing this paycheck today.

College Books have always been bad.

One instance that still chaps me is a Calculus book.  4 classes used it Calc. 201,202,301,302.  So people buying it would think,"OK it's $200, but I can use it for 2 full years".  Well every semester, the book company had a new revision, so the book store wouldn't buy it back (even at the customary 50%).  My second year, the professor even required the new version(it had different examples and appendicies), so I ended up buying this $200 book twice. :P  :P

Been there dude.  I feel your pain :P

My school wont even let you buy books until a week before classes or something???ANd that new version kills, I have a stack of new books here that are no longer used! They offer like $4 for them and since they have some useful info I just keep them! My computer science books usually cost about $120 a book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Glad I'm out, that's one of those things I don't miss at all.  I once had to pay $72 for a paperback.  But my favorite was a $100+ book that the prof didn't have us open all semester.  Not ONCE.   We were all VERY happy about that...

Good luck to those still going through that stuff.

Aren't engineering books great?

Too bad I wasn't a history major or something along those lines.  I doubt they even need books.  lol.

I wish that were true.  I've been lucky I've always gotten used History books, but they still cost $50-$80 each used.

I've got another week and a half to two weeks before I get screwed by the lovely book stored.  Oh well.

Becky and I spent around $550 last semester for six or seven books, and they were all used except one.   :P

Hey, I know what you guys mean!!  It seem like some things never change.  I went through the same thing years ago at K-State.  I tried to buy used books whenever possible, especially in the classes that were not directly related to my major.  Believe it or not, I still use several of my music related texts as reference.

I got really steamed a couple of years ago when I was taking a graduate level class to renew my teaching certificate.  The instructor was using a new text ($85), so obviously I had to buy it.  At the end of the semester, the college decided to use a different text the next semester.  The wonderful book store offered to buy our "new" texts back for $5!!!  I told them I would throw the  #@*&$$  thing away before I would let them have it for a measly $5!  Sure can't understand why they were offended by that,LOL!!    Bob
