Too many miles

Hey, looking at a 2018 3500 dually 6.6l with 300,000 miles, pictures look good, but is it too many miles?

What's the service history on it?  Price?  Has the fuel system been replaced?  Head gaskets?

maybe also check engine hours.

and not just engine, but transmission service.

 

And it really depends on price, what you are going to use it for, and how reliable it has to be for that use.

 

That mileage puts it into the range where either the engine or transmission could fail at any time, if they haven't already been rebuilt since the truck was new.

my biggest hesitation is with that many miles something is bound to break, and could be very expensive.  Good to hear real thoughts from experience,

That is only 35k miles a year, not really that excessive. As stated maintenance and price would be key factors. What was it previously used for to rack up the miles? Towing? The trucks my company uses go 50-70k a year (F250-350s) all highway, no towing, no loads, oil changes and maintenance every 6k. 3 have blown the engines around 130k but that's for the Fords. It's a gamble no matter how you look at it.

I've decided to pass on that 3500hd with No service records or No receipts of anything done, just seemed like a quick sale before something big mechanically happens.
