Did i get you all scared?  No it wasnt on my truck.  Went to our summer cottage to fish today and I had to do some painting (shed and porch) and cut the grass.  Well after about 10 min of cutting the grass with our old tractor as seen below it sounded like i ran over a branch all i heard was something being eaten up.  Then it died immediatly.  I got off checked the ground and noticed a clam shell in pieces well i started picking that up when i picked up some hot metal (Not a good sign).  After furthur inspection (tearng engine apart) me and my dad noticed that the rod and piston cracked and the piston wall (terminology may be wrong sorry its late and i cant think) was broken off.  Had to cut the darn grass all by hand :P  Engine is all torn up and is garbage (not worth fixing).  What a wonderful day.

Bummer!

yes and no

yes - no tractor for awhile

no - we have an older tractor (which me and my cousin drove into the lake) and the motor is good but the trans is shot so we may be able to mount it to the current tractor.

no - persuading my dad into a new one or possible an atv with a mow deck/plow  :P

That's the way it goes Ryan! :P I've destroyed more than one mower and you're right-usually they're not worth fixing.

The ATV/Plow is a good thought!  The ATV mower deck probably is not.  The ones I've seen are heavy pull-behind trail mowers which are not real manuverable or suitable for cutting lawns.

Your truck would look good with new 4wd ATV sitting in the bed! :P

on the topic of tractors..

few years ago my brother in law moved into a new house there was a tractor with a mower and plow in the garage<he has 2.8 acres>

anyhow he says he tried to get it running and couldnt

he took it apart and peice by peice he put it in his trash cause he was too cheap tp have somebody come take it lol

anyways im renting his garage off of him  <i play with drag bikes gotta have a garage>and i notice this motor im like "Hey Eric, whats that from?" he proceeds to tell me the story of the non-running tractor

i love to play with #### so i pull the plug wire brush it  gap it and reinstall <motor DOES spin i checked that first off>

dump the gas directly down the carb and let er rip

first pull on the cord PUTPUTPUTPUTPUTPUTPUTPUTPUT!!!!!!

Used Murray RLM's are everywhere down here.  You might want to troll a couple of garage sales.  A few years ago we bought 2 for $100 and one of them worked!

I was freaking when I read that topic title.

Haha sorry  :P

There is a guy in the local paper who has a 454 for sale for $300 and 2 350s for $100 each.  I told my dad maybe we could rig that up on it?  Thing would surely fly

you need a v-twin garden tractor with a 6 speed tranny like us. tops out at a blazing 5.2mph. 46" mowing deck and a 3  bin bagger. someday i'll put the grader blade on it.

My grandma has a 2000 Craftsman 19.5 horse turboo twin cooled Briggs and Straton engine mower. How much land? 7/8 of an acre. Overkill? oh yeah. But the way she drives it she need a powerful one. She gave her old 12 HP craftsman to us and it dies right before our last mow last year. That engine lasted forever(14 years!!) and had about 1 oil change in the time she had it(6 years?). So we traded it for a re-built old high wheel Murray 5 Horse push mower(It was like a "Muscle Mower") then after 8 mows the crankshaft went out, the the guy that sold it to us it putting a new engine on for free. In the mantime we picked up a Craftsman 6.0 HP briggs and stratton engine 22" side discharge/mulcher", with high wheel, and the new no throttle control feature, it is pre-set at max power. it lasts 4 lawn on a tank(around a 1/3 of a gallon) of gas too! What about the murray? Well when we get it back were giving it too my brother, he's buying a house, and I'm gonna rice it up. :P  I'm thinking stripes, chrome spray paint the muffler, maybe a "R" here and there.  :P

Sounds like you shattered/cracked the piston skirt which then led to the piston wobbling which probably wore away on the connecting rod which after awhile, simply gave way.
