How good is your eye?

Most of you may think this is stupid, but I'm thinking some of you may think its fun. Here goes.

How much does this steer weigh? He is a 7/8 Simmental, 15 months old, with a hip height of 52.5". That is all the info I'm giving you, the rest you'll have to look at the pictures to figure out what you are going to say.

Considering a 3:1 ratio of hay intake to poop, and the decent weather in the plains states this year, and the hairy ears and the boney front knees, and the extra large booger hanging out of it's nose, my un-educated guess would be 1670 lbs.

I sure hope he yields better than that!! Every fat steer usually yields ~30 ribeyes, in addition to the T-bones, sirloins, and other steaks. Oh, and a #### of a lot more than 2 ribs!

Well, you can figure on only 60-62% of the live weight going into your freezer, so that isn't the best method to figure out.

A cow with a wet nose is a healthy cow, having a booger like that sticking out isn't all that bad. Don't want it streaming out though. If the nose is dry that means the animal has serious problems and needs to be medicated.

As for the crap thats always on them, well the fact their only bath is when it rains may explain that. That is excepting show cattle of course, they get cleaned off twice a day.
