Aluminium Polish?

I have polished aluminium wheels (not on the truck, but you guys are the best source), that are covered with tiny specks from driving in the rain for a few hours. I think they are from road chemicals. Normal polish does not seem to work. The wheels shine up nicely, but the spots are still there. Suggestions?

If you haven't tried it, Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish )in the little red and white can) is great stuff. If that doesn't do it... might try Nevr-Dull by Eagle One.

I would get a product that is designed to remove hard water spots as a start. before you use it though if you have pollished the wheels, you will need to remove the coating it puts on. I personaly have never needed to do this so i have no proven great ideas. how ever apon doing a google search, i found tons of products that claim to remove hard water spots.

I usually use Wenol on my billet grill and bowtie, but if there is a coating (clear coat) on the wheels this stuff probably won't work. It comes in 2 tubes. THe Orange is more aggresive polish and the blue is less abrasive.

Coincidently, I had the Mothers and the Nevr-Dull in the garage, and that is what I tried first. Those are the two products I like the most.

 

I never thought that they may be hard water spots. Thanks for the tip. I will look for the Wenol and use the Google search. By the way, the wheels are in the second link in my signature.

I just used the Betterbuilt polish the other day on my chrome StreetScene grille, toolbox, bedrail protectors and finally on my Polished Aluminum rims. I must say, it did an amazing job. I've used the Mother's, Eagle One, and a product called Flitz. The Flitz worked very well (ran out), but none were as easy as the Betterbuilt polish. Even after it rained for three days, the 2 rims I cleaned (Front) still looked like I had just polished them. The picture in my sig was taken right after I had polished the front rims, I had to go out with my wife to eat, so I didn't get to the rear. One other thing, aluminum will pit, causing little specs to appear on the surface of the rim. This Betterbuilt polish even got those little specs clean, which have been there for a couple years. The pits are still there, but at least they are clean. Got it at Lowes, for about $15. After doing all that to my truck I used about a third of the bottle. Just make sure to constantly rub with a clean surface on the cotton cloth. Chris

I'll second the Wenol vote. I used to use it with very good results on my old set of Centerline billet wheels. that is some good stuff!!

Thanks. I will try the Better Built and Wenol. I have tried Mother's, Eagle 1, Meguire's, Brasso, Lime Away, vinigar and water (a couple of places said it would work), and some cleaner wax. Still no luck. And they are a pain with all the little bolts (three piece wheels).

Well, I tried the Better Built with no luck. Leads me to think they are nicks in the metal. Not really worth the effort to machine them out yet. They look fine from 10 feet away.

 

I guess it is a trade off of actually using our vehicles instead of keeping them shiny in the garage. Thanks, everyone for the tips. If anyone stops by, I have a bunch of metal polish in my garage you can borrow.
