Which "power adder" for my 8.1 ?

I got a wester's tune for mine. It really woke it up....I used to have superchips...it was worthless except for being able to reprogram for bigger tires. The scan tool that is on it doesn't even work.

Go with a tune from Wester's Garage

Wester's 93 tune here...really woke my truck up. I for some reason got a very strong result...this thing really rocks... revs to 4500 like a small block and pulls hard right thru the shifts...very pleased.

You will need to use 93 octane if you go with the 93 Hot tune. Another popular option is the dual 89/93 octane tuning. This will adjust for the fuel that you use.

Pricing is -

westersGM01-02

2001-'02 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 8.1 Wester's programming

$495.99 + $175. for the core.

PCM cores -  You will need to send your factory PCM into Wester's after you install the new computer. We will do a "core authorization" on your card to cover this computer until it is returned. The authorization won't be an actual charge, but it will hold the money for us in case the core isn't returned.

The Hypertech will increase performance but it won't be close to the gains that are seen with the Westers tuning. It's kind of like comparing a Timex and Rolex. They'll both do the same thing but one will do it much better. Some benefits of the Wester's is -

30 day free trial, you don’t like it, we’ll either modify it, or send it back and owe nothing!

Lifetime warranty (no cost or fees)

Lifetime updates for all future mods ($45 shipping and handling fee)

Lifetime full price paid credit toward your next custom tune for your next vehicle ($45 shipping and handling fee)

No vehicle downtime! You will receive your recalibrated PCM before sending your core back. Want to upgrade this for other mods in the future? No downtime here either! The same thing can be done for this too.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Did dyno runs today on a dynojet that corrects for altitude so my numbers are based on sea level. I have a 2004 Yukon XL 2500, 8.1, with 3.73 rear gears, 4L85E trans, running 91 Octane (93 at sea level), 245-75-16 tires. I live at 5300 ft. and the HP factor is 21%, but the dyno converts to sea level numbers. I did three sets of runs, three runs each as follows:

1. Bone stock : 264.4 RWHP, 362.5 RWT

2. AFE Magnum Intake and Stock PCM: 275.7 RWHP, 370.2 RWT

3. AFE Magnum intake and Westers PCM: 293.3 RWHP, 392.5 RWT

4. I also got a dyno run they did on a stock 8.1 2500 with the Allison trans: 240.5 RWHP, 330.7 RWT.

Conclusions: The air filter was good for 10 rear wheel horsepower and 8 lb ft. of torque. Definitely worth the $250. Plus mpg has improved.

The Westers tune gave me 18 RWHP and 22 lb. ft. of rear wheel torque. Spoke to Lyndon about the numbers and there are some differences he is going to tune for with the 2004 models. He's setting up another tune that will be more aggressive.

So far we have added 30 RWHP and 30 lb ft. of rear wheel torque with two mods, I expect to get maybe another 10 of each with the new tune.

If you calculate the parasitic losses based on 320 HP and 440 Torque then we are at 356 HP and 475 lb ft. at the crank.

I have all the dyno charts, and if anyone wants them, I'll email. You'll need to download the dyno reader from Dynojet at www.dynojet.com.

OK folks, latest results of PCM 2 from Westers.

We now have broken the 300 RWHP barrier at 304 RWHP, this is up from 293 RWHP with the previous PCM and the 264 RWHP in stock trim. That's 40 RWHP folks with two mods, intake and PCM.

Next comes torque and again, we broke the 400 lb ft. barrier with 409 lb ft of RWT. Thats compared to the previous PCM with 393 lb ft of RWT and stock at 363 lb ft. We have improved 46 lb ft. of RWT over stock.

The numbers, using 21% of parasitic losses, come to:

384 HP and 512 lb ft. at the crank.

Obviously these numbers are for the 4L85E trans. Look at the stock 8.1/allison numbers and you get your starting point. Improvements should be similar.

So how much total torque and horse gain for my truck? I looking for major horse and torque gains, also how much yall think the Hypertech PP3 will give me?

The Hypertech will increase performance but it won't be close to the gains that are seen with the Westers tuning.

For specifics, you need to get the product and install it yourself. Everyone's vehicle is slightly different. Read the previous posts....

I looking for major horse and torque gains

Well if that is what you are really looking for you will need to eventually S/C the truck, I've been there and done that.......thrown everything at the truck and though it was a good starting point, no mod I did made the difference that the S/C did.
