If they are talking about it going into cars I doubt it will replace the Allison.

Maybe it's a family of transmissions. A six-speed Allison-like auto would be so sweet for mountain towing. You'd always have just the right gear on-line. I'm drooling at the thought.

It wouldn't suprise me. Heck they already share the ZF6-350 six speed manual on their 3/4, 1 ton, and smaller mediun duty trucks.

The joint General/Blue oval 6 speed auto tranny is for small to intermediate front wheel drive cars.

Allison already has a 6 speed for up to 800ft/lbs MD3060/MD3560

Yeh, the photo I saw (mock-up?) was a front-driver transaxle.

The Allison in the current Chevy trucks is capable of 6spds but a couple of pieces need to be changed (servos, etc). It's been rumored that in the future the Allison will be available as a 6spd.
