'03 Accelerator pedal arm rusting!!!!

I was taking out my floor mats tonight to clean them and vacuum out the carpets and noticed that the linkage arm that holds the accelerator pedal is rusting REALLY badly already!! I was like WTF!?!!?!? It has already stained the carpet where it bottoms out into it when you floor it. Is anyone else having this problem??? The truck has NOT ever been submerged in water and definitely hasn't had water inside of it from anything. I am completely dumbfounded as to why this is happening. Gonna make a call to the dealer tomorrow morning. I don't even ever leave my windows down when the vehicle is parked. GRRRRRRR

Let me know how this turns out. My '03 is rusting really bad too. I'm like wtf????? Truck ain't even a year old and the gas pedal arm is rusting like a '54 ford thats been out in the ocean for forty years

Mine is the same way, both the brake and accellerator arms though. Rusted to all hell.

I figured whoever owned the truck before me must have lived on the beach and kept their windows rolled down or something. I figured I' take them out and paint them eventually, but I'm pretty lazy, lol. It seems like the dealer should fix that.

If you guys find anything out, please let us know.

I just looked at my 03 and NO rust save for a tiny bit of surface rust at the top, thats where the paint stops! My brake pedal is the way, both arms are painted/coated black, couple small knicks on the brake arm show rust where the paint is gone. Maybe some of the trucks out there dont have painted arms? Mine was built in early december 02, had it allmost 17 months, live in CA, and always have my windows up, but thats not it, its the paint/coating that has protected it. Also my clutch pedal and arm have zero rust....but its plastic!

Just checked mine and it has none. There is this dull black/gray paint sprayed on the metal, though, even at the top. I'll go and complain, I think. Or it might be just surface skin rust that just doesn't go deeper. I did notice that toward the top, the surface was very rough. If rust was there, it might feel like rust had been eating through.

Anyway, that is my observation. My '03 was manufactured during summer of '02. It has had its share of salty beach sand around it.

Accelerator pedal is fine on mine, but the brake pedal linkage is covered in surface rust. Used to be painted black.. or so I though! My truck was one of the latter 03's to roll off the line.... rolled off in July. Windows always up... and definetly no water on the inside.... guess the humidity? Let us know what you find out from the dealer.

I live on the ocean but no salt water has ever been inside my truck. The gas pedal looks crazy. mine was a later model '03 as well. Maybe its just with the later '03 models or something

may want to paint it yourself. If you take it to the dealer they will just put one on that will rust again.

5/6/03 Update:

Well, had an appointment this morning and the techs looked at it and said they have to order a replacement. Didn't question it at all. Should be in next week and now I have to go back again to have it replaced.
