I have been thinking about ditching the truck and getting something a little better on fuel. Money is really not an issue, but spending so much a week on gas for my truck is starting to get to me. I find myself not taking my truck places because I know it eats fuel. But I like to drive places and not let someone else do the driving. I do use my truck as a truck a good bit, But my dad has a Z71 aswell if I ever needed it. My other car gets 13-14 MPG so thats not an option either. I was looking at the 2004 GTPs and I did the math and would be saving over $800 a year on gas and I would feel better about taking it on long trips.

Do you guys think I am nuts?

if money isnt a problem why worry?

my truck eats gas like a mofobut i love taking it places..

the gas comes with the truck... if you didnt want the mpg of a truck why did you get it?

I do not think that you are nuts but, even though you will save $800/yr in gas, you are sure to lose that much when you go to trade in your truck.

I understand what you are feeling though. The money isn't really that big of an issue but putting over $60/week in my truck does get to me and I've thought of buying a small 'beater' car for daily use. The problem is that the extra insurance, reapirs, maintenenance, etc will eat up any savings I might enjoy.

If your looking for opinions, keep the truck.

i have been thinking of getting a "beater" (newer truck like a colorado or car). I would like something I could drive back and forth to work and use my truck for weekends

Weird...just tonight I was thinking the same thing...I drive everywhere and gas is a bitch...I, too, have thought about buying a small car for my drive to work, etc. but...like a previous poster said, insurance, extra payment, etc. wouldn't be worth it. I can't wait for the day when this truck is paid off, but that is 2.5 years away (February 2007). My payment is a little high, but thats alright, I have been paying on it now for over 2 years and I am about to reach the halfway point. So trading it in would just cause me to start over on another 5 year note...I eventually want to have NO car note, so that is my inspiration to not trade 'er in.

I prefer a bigger weapon during my daily commute :D:smash:

So I keep the truck, longer drives(200mi or more) I take the wife's car('00 Grand Am GT),it gets about 28mpg....but @ least I have that option...

But when I drive the car I feel like I'm wiping my A$$ w/blacktop...I prefer to see in front of me.

I agree w/all of the above.....but in the end its yor choice/preference

Keep it. Especially if the money's not the issue. You're paying for the truck and it gives you the convenience and utility. Besides, gas prices won't be this high forever. At least, we hope.

You take a beating when trading it in,then your loan will be longer, more intrest paid and your 800 dollars savings turns out to be null and void....Try different driving habits and save a little go-go juice each tank and it'll add up...Keep the truck...

I ride my motorcycle to work as much as I can. Not today though, it was 25 balmy degrees this morning. Not just cold but icy too. BRING ON THE HEAT!!

I personally could care less about the 13-14mpg my truck gets. The part that sucks is the 26gal fuel tank. I just get up on the hwy and it seems like I have to start looking for gas. I need about 500m range.

If you want to sell your truck and get a womens car do it. But don't think you will be saving any money.

If applicable, you could always use public transportaion. Here in Houston, a bus or carpool can get you almost everywhere. Takes a little bit more time, but is certainly cheaper than filling up all the time.

The other thing that I noticed really helped was trying to do all the BS chores all on one day of the week (groceries, dry cleaning, etc.) That keeps the truck parked for much longer periods of time and seem to keep me from filling up as often.
