ive seen a few posts on here for the 4 light mod, was wondering how many people had done it and how it was working out in the long run. any drawbacks or problems????????? and also if anyone had done the mod using a switch in the cab instead of having all lights go on when high beam is selected, this would give u the option of low, high or both... im thinking this would really light up the highway. or hold me over till i can afford some silverstars... :)

I just have the R&D kit which allows all 4 on at the same time. It's worked well for me with no problems. I have also put on some front aux lights and rear aux backups. You could perhaps use an aux switch in the pod housing where the airbag shutoff switch is(if you're truck is pre 03 I believe).

Beware of the R&D kit and those that use the factory wiring to accomplish all 4 on. I know there are alot of these out there and that most people are not having problems but if you do have a problem it can be expensive.I had to replace the multifunction switch due to overload of the wires. I know I'm not the only one too. I switched to a complete wiring harness that only uses the factory wires to switch relays, much easier on factory harness and much brighter too. Costs a little more but well worth the extra.

work truck, what failed the factory wiring or your add on switch, and also where did u find the kit that u put on. i believe i seen a post on here saying r&d has gone bankrupt or couldnt be found, so i either need a good home brew fix or a kit like u talk about if there in a reasonable price range.

i did the diod between pins # 85 of the high/low relays. used 22 ga. wire and

sodered it together and striped bouth ends and put into corner of

relay socket and installed relays back in. took about 5 min. to find wire

and soder it togeather and 30. sec. to install.

so far so good no issues and im also running silver stars on high/low

beam defenet improvement.

btw.. mines 03

What failed on my truck was the factory wiring at the multifunction switch. It melted the low beam wires where they leave the back of the switch. Happened at 11:00 at night on a dirt road about 50 miles from nowhere, all lights went out. Had to re-wire with crimp connectors in the dark by flashlight, wasn't pretty. I go tthe harness from SUVLights.com. Some people have complained about thier service but I was satisfied. Be specific if you order from them cause they have a ton of different harnesses available. I too am running silverstars now and am real pleaseed with the additional light.

i looked at that website, 55 plus tax plus shipping, and it looks like more work then i wanna get involved in. if u were to jump the relays like it shows in some of the posts, by doing it that way wouldnt u not be sending the power threw the switch and wiring? id like to do the mod but not get to involved

Not as long as you have the dual relay set-up..pin #85 on the relays should be the LOW current trigger from the headlight dimmer switch..thus it only triggers both relays the make contact(close @ the same time)

i used a painless kit for 20.00 it works great it has relays so it will not over load the wires. i also put in aux light on the bumper HElla 500's WOW i think i can light up Mexico From North East Ohio.

where did u find that kit rookie,,,,20 bucks aint to bad if i dont have to totaly rewire the truck. has anyone that jumped the relays had any trouble???? anyone jumped the relays with a switched diode so u can have the control of using just highbeam and not both when u want to?

My kit was 20.88 from summit racing. (got it at work :smash: )its for 1988-1998, for the 1999-2002 it would be part number PRF-30821(if your head light wires are Purple and yellow) the cost on it is 37.88.
