I'm just curious... No intention of doing an engine swap but I was just wondeirng what would be involved and how much it would run me.

I've heard the 2.8 was a dog and wouldn't run past 150k miles, I have 137k now and was just wondering what my options were.

I've also heard I could drop a chevy 3.4 in it from an early 4th gen camaro and it'd fit with everything i had in my truck already. Is that true? Know where I can find a used one in good condition?

What would I have to change out to swap in a bigger engine? Like a 4.3 or 5.7?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

GM makes the 3.4L replacement for the 2.8L as a crate motor, and the engine is built specifically for truck use. It is supposed to be a direct swap. I'd go to a local Chevy dealership that sells GM Performance Part's for more info.

the 4.3 swap would require significant changes but is very straightforward as it was offered in that chassis, find a wrecked or rusted out truck and get it to use as a donor. then you will get all the parts you need. the 2.8 transmission won't bolt up to a 4.3 or V8 so it will have to be changed to. As for the V8 it was never offered from the factory. So it will involve custom parts and a significant amount of fabrication to get it done. there are kits available but none give you everything you will need, it's not something you will do in a weekend.
