im getting static of my drivers side speaker when its playing the higher notes,(the deep bass sounds i thinkis what they would be called?) it doesnt do it all the time though, i tried sending the the sound over to the passenger side speaker and it doesnt do it from there. funny thing is its an off and on problem. i dont listen to it loud at all but i like keeping the bass turned wide up, if i turn it down to the half way point this static goes away but the radio just looses its sound quality. any ideas what this could be? bad speaker or bad connection? or what? this is a factory stereo and speakers on a 2002 silverado ls

Sounds like a blown speaker or a warped cone. If it's just slightly blown, you'll notice it alot more with the radio than a cd since the sound quality. If you get ambitious, take the speaker out and push up and down on the cone, if you feel any scraping or rubbing, ya found the problem. Happens alot with factory radios since they usually don't have enough power to properly hit the lower frequencies.

You can get the grill off by itself, but it's actuall easier to take the entire panel off.

The higher notes come of of the tweeter. The low bass is the lower sounds coming out of the woofers.

Sounds to me like you blew a speaker by cranking the bass. Factory systems are designed for decent sound across the entire spectrum, not heavy bass.

If you want more bass, install an amp and a sub. Otherwise you will keep blowing speakers. The door speakers aren't built to handle heavy bass for extended periods. They overheat, and you lose the speaker.

Actually, you will notice it more from CD due to sound quality.

And the factory radios are matched with the factory speakers so that this will not happen, and to get a good overall sound. The wattage output of the radio correlates to pretty tight tolerances on the input capabilities on the speakers.

He is cranking the bass, which the system is not designed for. This will happen time, and time again for as long as the bass knob is turned all the way up.

if it were blown why would it not do it all the time?? and why would one speaker blow and not the other?. also if having the bass turned right up was too much for the speaker to handle why is the bass knob there, these speakers should match the stock radio and be able to handle anything it can give?????

There is a TSB on these speakers coming loose and falling out!

I happened to notice my pass side tweet fell out one day. The sun had to hit it just right for me to see it tho. Had it replaced under warranty.

So you might check with a flashlight and ensure that the woof and tweet are still in their little holes.

Just a thought.

And yes, the sound from these stockers is not so good. This will be my first major mod once the stereo cant overcome the rattles and creaks anymore!

 I don't crank the bass.

:seeya: All the posts I have seen in forums and other owners prove that it is the driver door speaker

:chevy:

Yeah, but this post isn't about you, it's about iron_786. He says that he has the bass cranked all the time.

The bass knob is there to compensate for the quality of the source, or to give a little extra to a song that is lacking, or has too much bass. The stock system is not designed to give you the "boom", plain and simple.
