A programmig software package such as VCM-Edit or LS1-Edit will allow you to set the speed limiter to, say, 250 MPH, effectively disabling it.

See www.carputing.com for info about LS1-Edit, and

www.hptuners.com for info about VCM-Edit.

Peace and Cool-ness,

what is the aerodynamic top speed of these trucks, anyway?

Why do you want to go faster than 100 MPH? GM puts that on there for many reasons, the main reason is so you don't kill yourself, your tires are TRUCK tires, not racing tires. They arn't built to handing that type of speed. And dosen't raising the limiter or reprogramming your PCM void the warrantee?

Only if the dealer finds out about it.... :flag:

And take it from someone who has gotten his truck over 100 mph, its pretty hard to steer because the entire car just glides incedible fast, causing lots of body roll. It was pretty scary the first time I did it, now I don't do it at all.

Well, the reason I want to raise the limiter is this... In Texas, where I live, the speed limit is usually 70 MPH on any major road. Three weeks after buying a new $36,000 truck a moron is doing about 70-80 in front of me and starts to swerve off the road and his tires start throwing rocks at my new truck, at first I slowed down but the rocks were just bouncing down off the roadway. So I proceeded to pass him, he sped up to about 90 for some reason, finally he realize I was trying to pass and let me, about halfway into the pass my motor cuts off and almost causes an accident... I do not race, but in this situation it would have been nice to be able to go up to the 120 MPH that is printed on the speedometer. Why make the gauge go that high if it cuts off? My first car, 1987 Chevy Cavalier only displayed 85.

BTW it will not void your warranty, if GM does any work and finds the programming on your PCM is the cause they will just reflash it to factory...

I would guess that if you popped your motor going 117 mph, and you tried to get them to replace it under warranty.....When they hooked the puter up to it, and figured out that you had removed the rev/speed limiter....They wouldn't reflash it....They would just give you back your broken truck.

Hypertech Power Programmer...about $320.00...you can remap the entire truck in under 5 minutes and put it all back to stock within 1 minute whenever you need to bring it in for service. 130 mph is the best you can get out of it b/c 99% of Sport Truck Tires are still only H rates vs. V or Z...The truck will do 130. :flag:

I don't think going 117 MPH is going to blow your motor unless your don't have any oil in it...

Reprogrammer or custom PCM will at least raise the limiter.

All GM trucks have had this feature for over a decade now.

less than a decade, i had a 95 gmc Z71 with a 350 and a 5 speed step side bed, limited slip 3.55 rear end, flow master 2 chamber turned down right before the rear axle. would eat the 275/75/16 all the way thourgh 3rd. then the vortec chevys could pass me, till we got to 100 or so.

oh it got stolen in less than 15 mins of my parking it at the mall with out them leaving any glass and the doors where locked and i had the keys in my pocket. never turned up at all. well at least I had goten around to replacing the clutch again. was due in the shop the following monday.

ya, back to the present, d**n i really miss that truck, thinking the speed limiter started with the vortec's.

anyone know if the 2500 hd have a cut off? I ran out of straight road at around 105 unless i was mistakened, which since i had to slow down in a hurry i might of been.
