Mute button on steering wheel.

I want to be able to use the steering wheel button with the little guy talking as a mute button for the radio as it is suppose to work. When I was done with my first year of OnStar that ended 4/1/04, I thought that it would automatically revert to being a mute button. Wrong. I have talked to a lot of people at OnStar (and one guy who knew what he was talking about) who all said the account couldn't be more closed. They said nothing more could be done from their end. He suggested unplugged the OnStar box and that might force it back. I don't think that this step should be necessary. Anyone else run into this. When your subscription ended when did yours start to work again?

Quick update. I went under the dash last night to try and unplug the OnStar module. The OnStar system didn't work at all anymore after that (duh). But to no avail, the "mute" button didn't work either. Instead of switching the OnStar on and off it had no effect what so ever. Still looking for suggestions.
