I did a search first to see what everyone had to say about the use of Simple Green in cleaning the engine. Most of the replies were in moderate to strong favor for it, so I'm going to use it. But is it a good idea to use it at full strength or should I dilute it with water beforehand? It seemed to me that the odds between the two choices were about the same, so I'm not sure which way would be the best. I'll be letting the engine cool off for a good long while before using the hose and a light spray from the adjustable nozzle setting so I don't crack the block, and anything electrical will be covered with a couple of plastic bags (on each appliance) from the local grocery store (per Pacodiablo's reply) so I don't short anything out. Let me know ASAP if there is anything I'm missing so that I don't screw up. I'll be doing it here in a few hours, so your fast responses will be appreciated. :banghead:

Thanks. :D

I don't bother covering crap when I wash the engine...And I do it at the carwash.

Of course, I use common sense when spraying around under there.

My take on it goes something like this: I have driven my truck through water about 3 feet deep, and have hit some pretty big puddles and mudholes at speed. That didn't short anything out, or crack the block...Just made a mess. Granted, high pressure water sprayed directly on components will get into cracks that splashed mud wont, but like I said...A little common sense.

Dilute the Simple Green, and let it sit for a few minutes to let it penetrate...Then wash it off.
