Where'd you get your floor jack?

Hi,

I finally got me a Chiltons and am wanting to get a floor jack and jack stands to do some work. I went to Sears and Home Depot and both of their 3.5 ton jacks didn't have very long handles.

Is there a better brand or place to get them?

The handles were only about 3' long or so...I had assumed I'd get at least another foot or two. Am I way off base?

Thx

(3.5 ton should be enough, right? thats the weight of the truck)

Got my 3.5 ton and 4 jackstands at Sears also. The black and yellow ones. Can't remember how much, but it was one of those buy the jack, get two jackstands free deals. I think sears makes one just for trucks and suv's now, goes up a little higher and rated at a little more weight, 4 ton I think.

Got AC-Delco stands and their jack at Murray's Discount Auto. I had a smaller jack that came in a case, but it didn't hold up as well, so I took it back and exchanged it for your regular floor variety.

I got mine from Snap On. Very nice jack

Got a pic? Mind telling me how much? (PM me, if you would like, or email imawingnut at gmail.com

Just wondering, most of my stuff is Snap-On, and it would be cool to have a matching jack. Mine is a POS that requires 942 pumps to get it to the frame, 947 to get a tire off the ground, and doesn't go high enough. :jester: Only good things about it are that it will lift a TON, and because the handle was bent, I talked the store manager down to $20 for it. :)

I got mine from NorthernTool, but you can get cheap Aluminum Racing Jacks from Harborfreight too. The quality is good and the prices are great. You can get a nice 3000lb aluminum jack from HF for 140 bucks or so. :jester:

I have two craftsman jacks (one I thought broke but I had to bleed the air out of the system). My newest jack came with the jack, stands, jumper cables, a chair/creeper, tire iron, mat to put on the side of your car. Reg Price $159.99 I got it for 89.99 on sale

Wow :chevy:

I would have never thought of putting headlights and skis on my floor jack. :jester:

Don't worry about another pic...Not that important man. That one was fine. :)

Thanks

I have one of the Lincoln floor jacks. Two ton model. The one I have was US made. The new ones are made overseas. Lincoln used to be the supplier for the SnapOn floor jack. The only differences were the fact that the SnapOn were red and were close to $400 and the Lincoln was blue and was $200.

Just a though... I may be unpopular....

Truck $40,000 +

Jack from cheap no-name Chinese company $99

Jack stands thrown in with the cheap jack FREE!

Your head under the truck when you are looking at the suspension ... Priceless!

Whatever you buy, make sure it is well built and reliable!

Cheers, Doug

Yes, definitely looking for strong and reliable.

I did look at the Craftsman Pro series (blk and yeller) and for 150 you get a 3.5 ton and 2 3 ton jack stands.

The jack alone can almost lift the entire weight of the truck (sticker says 6500lbs) so I figure I'm only lifting one side at a time. Each jack stand can almost hold the entire vehicle, so i figure if I get 4 of them I ought to be fine.

Right, or should I go ahead and go for the 4 ton (at an extra 100 bux)?

Try going to your local farm store, they handle the really heavy duty ones for tractors and they are usually pretty cheap. I paid 35.00 for 6 ton ones on sale. Just a thought.
