What's the price for a new windshield?

$250 - $350. But you can get it replaced for nearly nothing through your insurance.

I just had the windshield in my 2000 Silverado replaced. Total cost was $188 installed. Better still, the company whose truck broke the w/s, paid for the replacement! My '93 Silverado needs a windshield and the quote was for $187 installed. Gonna' get that done this week. Mike

mine was $170 because I knew someone. List price was almost $800

Called my local glass places last week on this as I have a large rock chip right in my line o' sight. Quoted anywhere from $160 - $180 plus tax. And they will come to my work and do it in the parking lot! These were respected local shops and national chains I called. This is in SW Missouri.

 

This is a direct replacement complete with the tint on the top just like oe.

 

Also my insurance lady said that they will pay for a new windshield every other year and it does not "go against" my premiums - IOW it is NOT treated as a claim. YMMV, worth checking into.

 

Good luck and I wouldn't pay over two bills to get this done, IMO.

I pay right at $175 for windshields. Seems to be going rate of $185-$215 around here.

Check you insurance, in my state they MUST pay for glass replacement with NO deductible.

my friend took a good size pebble and he said he took it to a glass shop and they put this heat type solution on it which cured the crack... that windshield lasted 89,000 miles... but i guess that was good luck

Depends on where you live and what's involved in the install. Here in AZ (the rock chip capital of the world) the glass shops are loving life. Here in the land of the 'decorative rock front yard' many many people don't have grass in their yard because of the amount of water it takes to keep it green so they lay down plastic and cover that with decorative rock (different colors, crushed granite, etc). They also landscape the freeway's median and shoulders with that stuff. Needless to say there are plenty of rocks on the road. It's hard to find a car that either doesn't have a busted windshield or hasn't had it replace at least once. Because of this, most people have windshield protection in their insurance and the glass companies charge $500-600 for a new one.

Know what you mean. I had mine done three times already and I still have a chip in my new one for about a year now. The first one I took a rock to the drivers side, had it replace and then like two days later took another one in the brand new glass, had that replace for about a year and got another to the drivers side which cracked all the way across when it cooled down around here. My latest one has a good chip in the drivers side and has had it for about a year. Waiting to see if it gets any worse.

 

My insurance has no limit on the replacement of the glass. Matter of fact it was like only a month between my first and second replacement. No deductable, nothing against my policy for the claims. I think I pay like $6 a month extra for the coverage to my insurance. The company my insurance called will fix it in the parking lot and will come out usually the next day from getting the call. I think they charge my insurance like $350 to $400 for the replacement. I would call them today to do mine but I'm waiting to see how many more I'll get here and I'm tired of running to the tint shop to get the extra limo tinted visor added. (4" to 6" tinted strip at the top - the factory and the replacements come with one but I get a bigger and darker one added)
