ScottS (one of our members from Canada) is driving one of these awesome Avalanches right now...  He seems to be absolutely "thrilled" with it!!!  :)

The 2500 2x4 & 4x4 has been available since summer - it is the real version - great performance - super ride - lousy fuel economy, but who cares when you step on it. Most dealers don't even know about it - mine sold it for a steal off the demo ramp because he didn't have a Z71 with a sunroof!

I haven't had this much fun since my '67 GTO [454] - Avalanche [496] - varoom... Thinking of replacing the gauges with the Denali set to get 120 on the speedo.

Hey gandolphxx

Ain't they fun!!!  Is your's 2x or 4x ??  I have a pewter / neutral 4x, loving it.  Had to wait until they were available in Canada, but finally they arrived (Mid Oct.) after a 3.5 month order wait.  Would love to see some pic's for yours.

ScottS - it is 4x4 black, every option and protection package - still trying to decide on the grill - love it. Hard to find aftermarkey stuff - finally figured out that it is a Yukon/XL underneaath and a rado 2500hd in the engine - makes life easier. BTW mine was 1/2" low on the driver side - probably the gas tank and my butt - took 3 turns on the torsion bars and leveled it - now I will get the required alignment.

I'd like to see some pics too gandolphxx.  I think some of the Av guys in here would be interested in pics of the "protection package".  I think they were having a discussion about that a week or so ago...

So what exactly is "lousy" fuel economy, anyway? I've always been curious about what these big block engines get, but I've never seen any numbers.  ???

I thought about getting the big block but there is no Z-71 option with it.  I did drive the Silverado HD with the BB,

six-speed and I must say it was nice to throw some smoke in third gear.

Chadwick,

Lousy fuel economy would be around 9-10 mpg in town and 13-14 on the highway.  In my opinion, that is not too bad for all the power you get.  But if you were switching over from a 5.7L or 5.3L you'd have a hard time dealing with it...

If you don't rack up the miles, you'd probably only be looking at an extra $10/mo though.

That's not too bad, at all. My wife's little '98 Dodge Dakota 5.2L gets a whopping 10-11MPG in the city and 13-15MPG on the highway, so that's not much of a change.

Tempting! ;)
