Has anyone had the cable break on the regulator for the power window motor, and what did you do about it. the dealer says that I have to buy the entire regulator assy. to the tune of $225.oo to get a $10.00 cable!

I have replaced literally dozens of regulator assemblies.

Some have broken wires, some have frayed and jammed wires, some have unknown reasons for not working.

We have tried some reverse engineering on the assemblies to try and find a cheap alternative for customers that are out of warranty, but the amount of work and frustration involved is not worth it.

You wouldn't want to try to replace just the cable, I know it sounds like a money grab (and it may be for GM), but there is no cable available for the fix.

I'm not sure if the regulator has been redesigned, but I have yet to see a new one go bad, and I've been replacing them since the new cable design started in '99.

Sorry I don't have good answers for you, but I think you're gonna drop the 2 bills to replace it.

Hope this helps.

I searched all over yesterday for a replacement for this after the dealership here wanted $225.00 for one. I found a bunch of them on e-bay for $60-$90 from aftermarket suppliers that looked pretty cheap. I finallly stumbled across a company called A1 Electric that had OEM ones in stock for $109.00. I paid the extra for 3day air and still saved a bundle. I will let you all know how it turns out and if it is actually OEM when it comes. I have a feeling that since e-bay is full of these aftermarket regulators and the dealership here actually had a "few" in stock (they never have anything) that this is a VERY common problem.
