New CrewCab Install

Well after 12+ hours, some blood, a few tears, and a couple of significant cursing outbursts, the install in my new '04 1500 CC is mostly complete. With the exception of my sub box which is not built yet, everything is in, and actually worked the first time around. The significant parts of the system include:

Alpine 7998 HU

CDT CL-61 6 1/2" Components

Powered by RF Punch 250

(2) Kicker 10" XPL's

Powered by RF Puch 360

For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of doing an install in the NBS here are a few pics with explanations:

Since these trucks don't have a switched 12V lead on the factory harness, I tapped the 10A ignition fuse in the fuse panel.

What a nightmare.......

100A circuit breaker and the associated wiring under the hood. This picture was taken before everything was put in wire loom.

Power leads penetrating the firewall using existing grommets under the master cylinder.

A fuzzy picture of the CDT 3/4" Tweeter installed back in the factory position. I made a spacer ring out of 1/4" MDF to install it where the factory one was taken from.

Both amps installed and wired up under the rear drivers side seat.

Both crossovers installed up under the dash behind the accelerator.

HU installed with blacked out dash kit. When the face plate is retracted you can't even tell anything is on that part dask.

What are you gonna end up using for a sub/box combo? I've gone through a few designs.

The current plan is to fit two Kicker XPL's behind the rear seat in a 3/4" MDF sealed enclosure. I plan on removing the inner fresh air vents and relocating the tools under the passenger side rear seat. Since mine is the newer CC not the 1500HD I don't have to worry about the shelf/lip that was on the HD's back wall. Hopefully I can get enough air space back there. What are your plans?

They will be 10" XPL's. Hopefully the box will be similar to your V2.0. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go from V2.0 to V3.0?

There is always room for sound...Always.

You just have to sacrifice either:

1. A little money, and a lot of space

-or-

2. A lot of money, and a little space

They will be 10" XPL's. Hopefully the box will be similar to your V2.0. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go from V2.0 to V3.0?

I went from V2.0 (behind rear seat) to V3.0 (under rear seat), because I noticed that the bass got muffled by the seat back because it was so stiff. There was a big difference in sound between having the rear seat up and down with V2.0.

Even tho V3.0 fires up into the rear seat, it isn't as rigid, and I can't really tell a difference if the seat muffles the sound or not.

I think I am currently residing some where around a good deal of money, and too much space.... NOS#9BIGMAC, I have figured out so far that we should be like the Nike slogan and just do it! You will be happier in the long run. Here is the pic of the installed box

Everything looks okay so far. We broke one of the tabs holding the fresh air vent on the passenger side, so I have to order another one of those. I still need to relocate the jack and tools somewhere, hopefully this weekend I will figure out where they should go.

Those photos of the install are excellent reference. Would like to see more of that level of detail in the forum. Even photos unrelated to the topic can be useful for someone else's project.

After tools, chains, straps, come along etc. there's not much room for much else. I was thinking of getting rid of the bench and putting bucket seats from a 90 SS 454. that should give me some more room but yeah it'll probably cost me a couple bucks. I know I could get a truck box for the bed but that would'nt leave much room for the banshee my buddy's gonna sell me. Till then stock tunes will have to do.

Nice box lstoker thats pretty much what I was thinking of doing after I'm done with the bolt ons. but I gotta ways to go

You could always just add the stealth box...They're pricey, but sound pretty darn good.

Basically, you lose your center console, it doesn't look any different on the outside, but there is now a 10" woofer inside it.

where can I find 1 I've never heard of a stealth box. right now all I have is the bench seat but when and if I find SS seats I'll b scouring the bone yard for the center console as well or I'll just fab a new one
