I have a 99 GMC Sierra and had a few questions. How do you turn the lights off at night? Also what do ya'll think about head light and tail light covers. The total blackouts from GTS or AVS. I have a grey truck and I thought they would look good wondered if anyone else had used them before. Thanks for your .02.

Only way to kill the headlights is to turn the truck off. Push the e-brak down a little then start the truck back up. Not exactlly a good way but it is the only easy way. As far as light covers, they will make your headlights pretty much worthless!! Just get your tail lights smoked grey. Thats what Im gonna do.

Thanks for the info. I wish they made it easier to turn off it makes no sense. That sounds pretty complicated I guess I'll keep it the way it is.

Hey, there's no need to rip your dash apart, and all that nonsense. All you have to do is push the "dome light override" button. I think 2 maybe 3 times and they will turn off. I found this out the hard way, just fiddling around with the dash buttons on my last long road trip. Course this way it resets each time you restart the truck, but it's handy at times.

Just know that that dome overide function does not work on the 99's.

I disabled my auto headlights by wiring in an LED from Radio Shack in place of the photodiode on the dash. Wired it in right at the BCM (driver's side at base of steering column). I no longer have the auto-on feature, but personally have no desire for it. You can also get a BCM for a 00-02 and swap it in to have the dome light override method work. Find em used on Ebay for cheap.

As far as the smoked headlight covers go, I had GTS's for about a week. The headlight covers kept wanting to pop off, so I had to drill small holes in them and secure them with zip ties...not very high tech. Then I noticed that they still didn't really fit right and kinda messed with the smooth lines of the truck. Not really worth it for something that's illegal in my state and makes the lights utterly useless like Silver said.

They're in a landfill in Jersey now. RIP
