Battery overload

1997 Savana Van with V8 and 83K miles. Van was running fine until battery started to overheat until positive battery terminal post melted away. Also burnred out the starter relay. Can anyone help?

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator took a dump and full fielded the Alt. this may have been caused by an internal short in the battery.Both will have to be replaced along with the batt. cables...just a guess.........hope this helps

Citydriver sounds about right. Also a possibility that the starter and or relay shorted and overloaded the battery. You would think that a fusible link would melt first though, unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way.
