Westers or intake???

Hey everybody...

I have a 2001 2500HD 4x4 with a 6.0 and an automatic. It has 285's and duel flowmasters. I have been looking at getting the Wester's duel 89-93 PCM. I also want to go with an air filter upgrade.

1) What results should I expect from the Westers?

2) Will I have to get the PCM redone if I choose to put the intake on at a later time?

3) Should I expect a MPG increase and if so...how much?

Thanks for all the help.

well..witht eh westers you can expect many different things because its tuned to your needs, if you run 93 then you can expect those 285's to be replaced pretty often, but youll get firmer shifts if you want, better gas mileage, more power,

if you do the intake later then yes you will have to get the pcm done over again

and i cant quote you how much mpg you will gain but you will gain some, but if it was up to me i would get both because the combination of intake pcm and exhaust will make for a great package

I was under the impression that an intake did not require a new PCM flash. I thought the PCM would learn from the new intake. Am i wrong? I thought someone said that in another post, but i couldnt find it.

An air intake does not require the PCM to be reflashed. The computer will adjust for an air intake, cat back exhaust, and the like. A reflash would be required for any engine modifications such as a new cam, heads, intake, Supercharger, etc...

Mike, as far as choosing between the air intake and the Westers, I would go with the Westers. I have a 93 octane hot tune on my 6.0L and it runs great. I have no other performance accessories on my truck, just the Westers and what a difference it made. Common mileage gains are in he 1-3 mpg range. This varies by vehicle, tune, and driving habits, obviously! Some maintain their current mileage. Most see and increase though. I average 13.5 mpg or so with my truck between a mix of city and highway. I figure I am getting around 12mpg city and 16mpg highway. Take care...

Mike - I agree with Chevyfreak - I have an 02 HD with 6.0 and only have the Westers 89-93 tune. It really woke the truck up. I chose Firm shifts - 5600 full throttle shift points - Medium towing and middle economy. I have been through 3 tanks of gas so far and have avereage 13.5 mpg - that is a combo of city and highway. Before the Westers I got exaclty 13mpg so mine was good for .5mpg - not a great gain but ok for now.
