Ok guys I bought a 1989 k3500 dually with a 454 and a 4 speed Id like to know where i could de code the options and find out gear ratios of the tranny and power ratings for the year and all that fun stuff. Also is this a roller or non roller block? Im not sure when the Big blocks were changed to rollers. Thanks

Hopefully, the RPO sticker is still in the glove box. That will tell you the real axle gear ratio. The transmission you should have is the old Muncie 4 speed with compound low. 4th. is direct. The 1989 TBI 454 was rated at 230 h.p. and 385 ft. lbs., and is a non-roller lifter Mark IV. It is probably a 4 bolt main bearing block. Roller lifters were not used on big blocks until the 1996 'Vortec 7400' Mark VI.

O.K., L19 is 7.4L V-8 (454), M20 is 4 speed manual transmission, 117 mm., GT5 is 3.73 rear axle ratio. The gear ratios for that transmission are as follows: 1st., 6.55 to 1, 2nd., 3.58 to 1, 3rd., 1.70 to 1, and 4th. is direct (1 to1). Reverse is 6.09 to 1. The case is cast iron. Hope that helps!
