Chirp?

Okay, 99 Sierra 4X4 with a bunch of miles on it. When I hit bumps in the road, I can hear a "chirp" like sound coming from the drivers side. It usually only does it once per bump. I'm not sure if it is on the front or the back, but it is definatly under the truck. Any ideas? It is actually more annoying than the brake pads shaking in the calipers.

I think I might have the same sound. 99' sierra 2x4 w/ 66000 miles... It sounds like a higher pitched plastic rubbing sound, alot like a chirp as you describe it. I looked around in the dash area, pushing pieces around to try and stop the sound, but its definately under the truck or under the hood somewhere. It doesnt happen often enough to irritate me, but i have noticed it. I will investigate further when I get my truck back from the body shop on wednesday.

Had a similar noise with my 99, foud it to be the front upper shock bushings...had them replaced under warranty...twice. Second time was a charm. Actually, they repaced the shocks with re-designed ones.

Have a friend jounce the vehicle for ya while you listen by the front wheels. If you start to hear the squeak/chirp, try grabbing the front shock( be careful not to crush your arm...I had the wheels turned to provide access), and pull or apply some pressure...the noise should change or go away. If so, the front shock mounts are the culprits.

I had a jeep that i put an aftermarket alarm system on.... Anyway, the shock sensor was faulty, and would chirp if i hit a bump too hard.

i would guess, SHOCKS. if you have 40,000 on shocks, time to go.i like SENSATRAKS. sears has sale on them ,buy 3 and get 4th one free and free installation, unreal.
