Radio Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was going to put a 6 disc cd changer I have laying around into the truck this weekend. I was going to tap into the power feed behind the radio so I could keep all the wires hidden and tucked away. Needless to say I figured out that there is no switched on (ACC) power feed to the radio.

Sicne I'm not going to hack up and tie into anywire I find that is switched, for 2004 did they make an indash 6 disc cd changer?

If not what can I do to get a cd changer controlled by the headunit.

I doubt I'll change the headunit in this truck--eventhough I'd like to, just new speakers and a 6 disc changer & a sub maybe.

Any help is appreciated.

There are several companies that make an interface to control an aftermarket CD changer with the factory head unit (as long as your factory unit has the "band" button)

I just added Sirius Satalite radio to mine with a Soundgate interface that will also allow the factory head unit to control a Kenwood changer, but there are several options.

Here is the link to the Sirius topic topic

Here are also a few links to sources for interfaces.

Soundgate

Peripheral Electronics

PAC

These new Class 2 radios are very different that the old ones, I would recommend going to the fuse panel for any "hot" wires.

My 2004 GMC SLT came with factory Bose system with 6 disc changer. Check at dealers maybe you can get one from them, although they will most likely be pricy.

they make six disk head units from the factory. You can also add a six disk changer (like the escalades and Yukons) in your console without any type of aftermarket switching devices or interfaces. Just a little rewiring (no cutting) and its just like factory. If all you want is 6 disk capability, search ebay for a stock 2003 or newer 6 disk head unit. You can get them for about $200 on Ebay. If you want to see what an external type changer looks like, click on the link in my signature.

What's the deal with the theft lock key needed?

They said that they get their stereos out of slavage yards so apparently the Theftloc feature was activated on this stereo when the wreck occurred and they don't have the code.

you should be able to take it to a dealership and they should be able to look the code up for you or re-set the stereo after it is installed.
