Factory Aluminum Rims Stolen but

Recommended Posts

Ok I recently moved to a new neighborhood. I left my rims and tires under the lean too overnight cause my wife was in the hospital with emergency surgery. Anway my rims and tires get stolen.

Lastnight I am headed home and I went a diffrent way to my house and low and behold there is an older chevy with these nicely polished HD rims (new lug nuts and no center caps). funny since my caps and lugnutz are in a box in the garage.

Heres my question: Are the rims numbered to the serial number on my truck. I know the Alcoa rims have numbers on them but are they anything I can use to go down and say well lets see thanks for polishing my rims I'll tke them back now!

I would just like to get justice outta this the law abiding way if not I have some pretty good Ideas to make it even.

thanks Ya'll

I don't know how you would ever prove they were yours...

Did you call the police? Maybe they could go and knock on the guys door and ask him to show a reciept...

thats way f'ed up i would file a missing property report, the cops say we'll keep an eye out, then run back a day later and point at that guy, if he has the rims from his pos in the garage then you caught him with the pants down and the cops will know those rims are from your truck, if all else fails then .... just try the police way first :smash: by the ways you seem to have enough evidence to prove they are your rims, no hub caps, old truck with new rims, new truck without rims, truck within close proximity.... hope it works out, those stock forged aluminum rims are top of the line quality

call the police and point the truck out to them.

I don't know about the rims, but the tires are marked aren't they? you get a peice of paper in your manual and stuff that warranties those tires so they have to have a serial number or something on them I would think.

either way, he probably can't prove he paid for him

In my neighborhood if that happened here are the chain of events that would follow.

1. Walk over to the nice gentalmens house (preferably with a very large friend if you have one)

2. Calmly state that you have been victimized in the way of stolen merchandise, and that you are in no way implying anything by noticing his new rims.

3. State that you were concerned he may have purchased some stolen rims and ask where he purchased them so you can investigate the seller. (wait for his reaction and reply)

4. Based on your observations, determine if a late night visit will be necassary, with or without your very large friend.

Who knows, you may find this truck belongs to a young punk who's father might be inclined to realize what happened and give them back to you. Never leave out the remote possibility of shear coincidence that he got new rims the same time yours got stolen....an extremely remote possibility given the factors you indicated, but still a possibility. I would tend to think its a young kid, because who else but a young kid or idiot would actually use the rims in the same proximity of where he stole them? The thing to do would have been sell them, unless he is just that sure of himself.

Either way you go, good luck and be smart about it. Today, the criminal has many more rights than the victim. Definately involve the police so there is at least a record of the incident.

Thanks Guys for all the great ideas.

I don't think removing the rims on the street would be that great an idea since possesion is 9/10ths the law

I do have a few ideas of my own: lets see loose differential cover bolts really suck on the freeway about 70 miles an hour, hooking up to his pickup in the middle of the night and drag it away with the Diesel is on my list, loose lug nuts suck.....

Well as it stands I have the question into GM they are researching it. Each rim is numbered so hopefully they are linked to my vin number? I love the idea of the warranty and tires (plus I never thought about it but my spare is the same tire).

The guy is about 37 one of those greesy kinda guys that is a rat, broke ass loser that wants everything for free......

Anyway I came up with a plan.

I already made a case with the local PD when I discovered them missing I don't think they could find a tractor truck parked in a paper sack(not even a grocery) ..... a lunch sack :smash:

I am going to go down and take a few pictures of the truck with the rims and close ups with the numbers and license plate infront of his house. and leave a Flyer on his windshield that says something like:

PUBLIC NOTICE

On July 1st 2004 a set of Four rims and tires were stolen from my residence. They are the Alcoa Aluminum rims that come on the LT version of the Heavy Duty Truck by GM. These Rims are 8 lug and missing the center caps and lug nuts.

The Rims and tires are both serial numbered and linked by warranty to the serial number of my truck. If you have any information or know the whereabouts please don't hesitate to contact me.

(at the bottom of the flyer)

P.S. I am waiting written verification from General Motors on the match between the serial numbered rims and tires from this pickup to my Vehicle ID number and warranty. I have taken many pictures of this vehicle with the rims and serial numbers and license plate and VIN for proof you the owner are in possesion. As the owner you are on notice that the Rims and tires are linked to my 2001 Heavy Duty by GM over the phone but Lt. Abuan at the Police Department wants written verification before I can retrieve the rims and prosecute for possesion of stolen property. The owner of this vehicle does not have to be the person or persons whom stole the tires and rims because he is in sole possetion of them.

I do not care how or why they were taken or how you recieved them I would like my rims and tires returned. No questions asked! Please return them to my covered strage area beside my house by Friday October 1st 2004 and the matter will be droped by me. The police are already involved and it is your hands what the next steps will be.

Please contact Lt. Abuan with any thoughts or concerns in this case, reference case: #3189545

Your Neighbor

What I am thinking there is a very slim chance he bought those rims from a tire shop but it is possible. I know he didn't because why would they not have centers but it is still possible. So with the note he knows he stole them and I have pictures to prove he was in possesion he will give them back?

Let me know what you think I am going down there tonight...

I wouldn't do anything to the guy, directly or indirectly, until you know if GM can link the rims to your truck. If he's a nice guy that bought the rims legit, you'll just insult him. If he's a jerk with stolen rims you'll just spook him into doing something stupid. Remember, if he is a crook then he know's where you live.

I know the Lynnwood area where you live. There are half a dozen shops that would sell used rims like that on hwy 99 within a few minutes of you.

I am actually in Tacoma now but I do understand I have seen those places on 99 alot yea he could have bought them but I also have seen this guy alot around my neighborhood and he's a snake.

I am thinking the pictures would solve most of this since I can prove he had them on his truck even if he does dump them? I think he's an idiot and will just put them back in the middle of the night? Luckily my truck sits in the fence with a rather large and loud guard dog there, only time he isn't is when he's in the bed goin down the road.

I'm not sure but waiting is killing me knowing he's putting miles on my tires.

Thanks for the advise all looks at the subject are what I am after.

The end result I just want my stuff back.

If I remember correctly the tires should have a bar code on them. It's located on the lip of the tire where it meets the rim.I don't know if all tires have this but I would think they do since everything is tracked by barcodes now.The tire companies use this barcode to find out when the tire was made and where it was shipped to.

yes gm and the other companies do track their tires. They do this to be able to solve recall problems. This came about after the firestone fiasco ( I think gm did it prior too). I would call a dealer to confirm and get the number(s) then I would contact the police and have them go with you to check them out

looks like someone stole the wrong tires, well if that doesnt fall through for you, you could always go the flyer method and put it on every neighbor's car, this way you will appear to be unbiased in which cars you put hte flyer and also include a picture of the rim and say (without hubcaps), bam, neighbor wakes up in the morning looks across the street,, jeeeh um those look like the rims in the description, and you have all his neighbors giving an evil eye, maybe they might help you out also... just a suggestion, by the ways i like the differential idea
