Tonneau Help

Hello all,

I'm new to the board, been lurking for a little bit. I did do a search, but thought I may as well post my question.

I just purchased an 04 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab and want a tonneau. I've been reading and reading and reading and am torn between a fold a cover type and a solid one piece type like the Snuglid.

I really like the way the snuglid looks, but am wondering how much of a pain it is to put on and take off. I could probably see taking it off once every couple of months.

Also, I found a website, http://www.ltsportcover.com/index.html. Their tonneau looks great, locks the tailgate (not the xtreme flat one) and weighs only around 55lbs for the crew cab, much lighter than the snuglid. I haven't been able to find anyone that has one, so I have no idea about the quality.

Any insight on the fold a cover, snuglid or lt cover would be greatly appreciated!

I've been frogging around today, boss is gone!

I currently have a soft tonneau cover, I just like the looks. In the past I had a hard fold-up style, and loved it, never a fiberglass one. If i had to do it again I would get a roll up soft syle, like Access. Muybuddy has a hard rollup on a black SD Ford, looks good, its a single piece of plexi-glass. keeps the junk out of the bed.

I take my cover on and off, so fiberglass was out of the question. I went cheap and got a $160 soft snap on style. Love the looks, keeps the bed dry, and I can take of when hauling large stuff, however you know I need to take the support bars out when I do. With most of the soft roll-ups, they have no supports, this would really benefit me, but not spending money on that now.

I went with the hard one. As you see, I got the Leer 700 and love the thing for the look. I havenot taken it off yet so dont know what I am in for. The good thing about the solid, it will limit the number of people that ask to borrow your truck to haul around their junk.

I have purchased some larger things that required me use to bungie cords to keep it down and didnt have any other issues with it.

I plan on keeping my toy for awhile so i went with the solid blended look. also, since it rains here all the time, it keeps the stuff nice and dry in the back.

On my last Sierra, I had an an Astro one-piece fiberglass lid. While it was secure and dry, it required two persons to remove. It looked good, but made the bed only a large trunk.

My Avalanche had the multi-section hard plastic lid that was strong and secure. I could take it off by myself, but each panel was rather bulky and heavy - and the Av has a narrow bed. Putting them in the provide bag was more trouble than it was worth. If away from home, I could remove one or two sections and store them in the bed with the tall stuff. It did occasionally leak. Too bad the Avalanche had too small a bed and was very difficult to access.

My son has an S-10 with a Truxedo. It latches securely and with a locking tailgate, it's somewhat secure except from a knife attack. He keeps a lot of gear under it and it stays dry. The velcro on the sides is getting weak. (The local accessory store told me to bring it in and the repair would be covered under warranty.)

I have a new Sierra Denali with the GM soft tonneau. I don't like the way the fabric is attached and I hate having the rear bar and bows in the way. I removed it today and am having a low-profile Truxedo installed tomorrow. The new low-profile Truxedo has stronger velcro and is just like the Access Cover with slanted sides. I think Access and Truxedo are basically the same and wouldn't be surprised if they were made by the same parent company.
