Tire Upgrades

My first truck of inquiry is for my own GMC 2500HD 6.0. I am about to replace the stock 245/65/R16 with something new. I'd like to go with something larger like the 285/65/R16 but worry about having to do any modifications to the bumper. I have the chrome bumper with the back plastic strip across the top and air dam with the fog lights on the underside.

I have decided to go with some 265/65/R16 Bridgestone REVO's E-Class and I'm curious if anyone out there has done this tire with a 2001 GMC 2500HD 6.0 and had to make any mods or had to shave off anything on the air dam.

I have definately looked at the 285's but as this is primarily my wife's truck I figure I would slowly move up. She's a little touchy on making any mods or cutting into anything on the truck so I'll stick with the 265's I think.

You said that you did have to trim some of the inner fender plastic to help make it fit. Did you have to do any trimming on the outter bumper or air dam?

i made a tire/wheel decision this week and ordered yesterday. i was concerned too about cranking t-bars or trimming the bumper, but just said "F it!" and ordered 16x8 American Racing Mojave Teflon wheels and 305/70/16 Wrangler MT/Rs.

Alright ... I put on the 265/75/R16 Bridgestone Dueller REVO's and I have to say they look nice and drive nice. I have yet to try them out on the Highway but will let you know how they ride on our old bumpy crappy highways. I will have to make one modification to the font mud flaps. I got the molded GMC flaps put on from the factory and the rub ever so slighty on the inside with a hard turn. So with very little trimming it will fit fine. And it sure fills out the wheels wells so much butter than those wimpy looking 245's. I'll post a photo as soon as I shoot one.

If you haven't looked at these tires I would recomend at least looking at them as the 265/75/R16 in an E-class is limited and these seems to have the highest rating in almost every area (Motortrend). They beet out the BFG A/T which I've been a fan of up here for years. So time will tell...

You will like the ride. It made mine ride alot better. Those 245 are bricks and they are so small it was like riding on a fork truck solid tire, congrats, these tires are awsome in the snow and sleet, here in Mi, I pulled sled trailer around quite a bit and like them alot.
