Scratches in glass windows

A couple of weeks ago I drove my wife's GMC through a dusty area and after I was through, I lowered the window. I heard that really ugly scratching sound as dust/dirt on the window/gasket left vertical scratches in the window. They aren't bad, but I'd like to get them out. I remember reading that you can polish glass somehow for stuff like this. Was it toothpaste or baking sode or water or something?

Any ideas? I saw the thread about hard water spots and got some ideas, but these are actual scratches.

Thanks.

Rain-X makes a cleaner/polish that has worked for me...its comes in a black bottle. Applying RainX the the side windows after you polish them should help keep them from getting etched from fine dirt again...

I have some deep scratches on my passenger's side window from the putz at the car wash and the bolts on the handle of his scrubber...straight lines about 3 to 4 inches long. Is there anything I can do, (besides replacing the widow), or am I just stuck with it?

This may be a long shot, but check with a local glass shop. If I remember correctly Safelite Auto Glass has a system for repairing chips and stars in a windshield, and they may have a repair for deep scratches...what the he!!, it could'nt hurt to ask
