Why??

I go buy this supposedly rugged military shockproof, waterproof, dustproof nextel phone. It's the i305. My GF drops it/throws it on the carpet and now it says no service, no matter where I go. Anyone see this before? I thought this was a tough phone. What would happen if I dropped it off the roof. Of course nextel is closed today and I didn't buy the insurance. These things make me mad! :P

That would suck. My old school Motorola has been on the ground numerous times and still keeps going. It's due to bow out gracefully sometime in the not too distant future though.

I've got the i305 also and have beat the begesus out of it and have had no problems. You might check the battery contacts to see if they are bent. On some models they will be on but show "no service" I had the i1000 plus before and that is what happened to it. The 305 is a lot tougher. But it always seems to be that way, they quit on weekends or holidays :P

whatever you do, don't drop your phone in a glass of iced tea! I did and my phone is shot. Of course, I didn't buy the insurance either and instead of paying $300 for a new phone, I'm now using my old one again. :fume:

I would definitely be returning that one. My I90 has hit the pavement numerous times and its still going.

It turns out that without insurance, the guy charges $35 just to take a look at it then charges after that to fix it. If I send it to Motorola they will warranty it, but it takes at least 10 days. I'm thinking I will be better off just getting another new phone and get the insurance for it. These companies just screw you no matter which way you turn. Going to a dealer does no good at all. The only thing they can do is sell new phones. They can't warranty them at all. It is kinda of a shotty business the way they are run.

Try going to a non direct Nextel dealer, they can usually help you and are usually cheaper than buying from Nextel themselves.

You have to remember that they don't make the phones, They just sell them. If you dropped your tv at your house is the cable company going to give you a free tv? I was crossing a river going hunting the other evening and dropped my phone in about 2 1/2 feet of water. I heard it plop and immediately stopped and felt around for it. It was under for at least 15 to 20 seconds. when i pulled it out it vibrated once and everything went blank. I pulled the battery off so nothing would short out and took the phone apart when I got home to dry it out. The next day I tried it but it would not work then tried a different battery and it fired up. Still working fine.

I hear you but this phone is supposed to be shock resistant. I'm not sure how many TV's have that.

Anyways, I brought it to a Nextel repair place and the swapped the phone out for a reconditioned one and all I had to do is sign up for the insurance which I planned on getting anyhow. Turned out pretty good in the end. The whole outside of the phone is new, it is just a repaired "computer" inside. Works fine now.

I just had to get a new i730. Mine was showing No Service no matter where I was. It took about a week of talking wiht the Nextel people, doing Master Resets etc., and I finally went down to the Nextel repair center and told the guy the problem. He tried cleaning the antenna pick-up, it didn't help much at all, so for $3 an month, I got the insurance, and now I can break it all I want! HEHEHE The new one works like a top, and I even get service I didn't with my first one. Also, I got the phone on Amazon, and they didn't care that I didn't buy directly from a NExtel dealer, which was nice.

 IMO Just take it to another store and say it stoped working, they should give you a new phone, and they will send your old one off for warranty, and then give it to some else with problems,

I have the i305 and as a PSD (public safety diver) I have dropped mine in 30 feet of water and gone down to get it and it still works. I have also thrown mine across rooms at my wife and it keeps going. I love the phone and service, but hate the poor reception all around the Delaware area.

You would think that as much money as they have (to sponser the NEXTEL cup) they could afford to install more towers/make the service more reliable. Their coverage is lousy all over northwest FL, GA, and AL

Yeah their coverage is horrible. I had one as a work phone. We were building houses in a new neighborhood(lots of trees around) and you'd get service 50% of the time. Also, if I went to the center of a house, again no service.
