Getting the itch to maybe buy a game console to play the new NASCAR game which looks pretty good and maybe a few others. I have a PS1 that I never play, but winter is coming and the price is down on these aging boxes.

What is the better choice in you opinion?

Any difference in quality?

Game selection less for the xbox?

My older brother has both (for his kids but I know he plays them a lot too) and he prefers the Xbox. I have an Xbox too but don't play it as much as he does.

I have the xbox. much better in my opinion. plus w/ ea sports on board now we have much more games to choose from. ps2 has a reliability problem.

only bummer is if you want to use it as a dvd player you have to buy the remote.

I tried the new nascar with mixed feelings. the game is great but they took away the in car veiw. bumper, roof or behind are the options. I miss my roll cage and steering wheel and dash.

I have a PS2 for my kids, they have used it for about 2 years now. It also plays ps1 games and will use ps1 memory for ps1 games. My brother-in-law had an xbox it died in less than a year, cost ~ $100.00 for repair.

I am a big fan of both systems! The PS2 has a great variety of games and a lot of awesome titles. X-Box is a more powerful system and the variety of games has been expanded greatly this past year. The X-Box is king when it comes to online games though. No doubt about that. Also most every X-Box game supports Dolby Digital sound. The hardrive is great as well. It is cool to be able to download updates and fixes for certain games. Both systems have great games and if you can afford it, I would say get both. Plus, both systems have a lot of great games that are greatest hits games, which sell for $19.99 now at most retaliers. Good luck with your decision...

It seems to me that the Xbox has more mature type games. The PS2 seems to have a better mix of games overall, plus it has the advantage of playing the original Playstation games. If I were to get only one now, it would have to be the Xbox b/c of games like Halo. I hate to admit I might buy one, but with Nintendo seemingly going the way of Sega, I'm looking for options myself.

oh I just remembered that a xbox can be modified to do all kinds of neat stuff. 1st you can add a larger hard drive then add a chip or flash the eepromm to allow downloading of the entire game to the hard drive. You can also program it to play ps2 games. 2nd you can download your own soundtrack. Say mettalica isn't your preferred choice of music. no prob just add that garth brooks cd to your soundtracks and instant redneck background music.

I have a PS2. It is a really good system, which hasn't caused me any problems. My friend has an XBox that I play Halo on alot. I think the PS2 has more games, but the Xbox is a faster system. Both are good. Also, the PS2 is the only system with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (came out Tuesday), which is a great game.

That's some interesting info! I like to "customize" things like that so it'd give me some options if I chose to. Programming to play PS2 games would be handy if that particular game isn't available in Xbox format. I'm surprised that is even possible.

Does anyone know of any good Xbox/PS2 forums where I could find out more info about things like this?

Go with Xbox. I've had mine for almost 2 years and never regretted buying one over a ps2. The modification possibilities are endless with xbox. I have mine set up to play all sorts of roms like nes, snes, sega, neogeo, N64, PS1 games, etc. I also have it set up to play xbox backups, divx movies, mp3s, dvd movies(without the $30 remote control). There's also internet browsers, Linux, tunneling software for online play and other operating systems available for xbox. Oh, and all of this can be done without a mod chip. You have to softmod, but it takes only five minutes(or less), and you don't have to open the box(no voided warranty). You can even play Halo and other system link supported games online. It's really awesome. Try and get an older version xbox if you can...they're easier to softmod.

The Box rocks! IMO its far more superior to the PS2. But Sony might change that here before long. The in game dynamics on Xbox are amazing when compared tot he PS2. Along with the textures, lighting and shading characteristics. But I like my PS2 also. There are games availible on PS2 that arent availible on the Box.

Hell yeah the box rules...I can't wait for Halo 2 to arrive. I thought Halo was so awesome. I think you'll be happy with either system. They share a lot of the same games, but the xbox will have the better graphics. I'd rather have a GC or a Dreamcast over a PS2 though.
