Oil Slinger

I have a question pertaining to an oil slinger. As I was building my first motor (Chevy 302, 327 crank) I made the newbie mistake didnt put on the oil slinger or oil seal, I should have asked about it but the rebuild kit did not come with either. I now have an oil leak coming from the timing cover. Part because the timing cover is chrome and very weak, part because no oil seal. Now my question is do Chevy small blocks use oil slingers? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes, there should have been an oil slinger on the crank behind the timing cover
