Looking at TV's

I've been looking at TV's for a while, as my 19" mono Symphonic freaked out a while back, it' was an X-file type thing, and the green hasn't been right ever since:

Panasonic 27" HDTV

I like this one, because it has a very competitive(read, low) price for it's segment, and from the reviews I've seen, is one of the best. The few reports of off-par sound isn't a problem, as It'll be jhooked up to my 600-watt Kenwood surround sound system. I want an HD, as my brother put it for me "to invest in the future".

also, this is the biggest I can fit in my current TV stand in my room

Originally I was looking at the WEGA, but at 100-150 more, there isn't too much of a difference. and Panasonic is suppoosed to have that PanaBlack technology or whatever, and they say black is the hardest color for a TV to properlly reproduce.

There is absolutely no way I would spend $500 on a 27" TV.

No way.

For something as small as that, I wouldn't break $300.

As for your old one...A discolored screen (usually green) usually is indicative of having a magnetic source too close to the screen, or some other type of electronic interferance.

Check with Radio Shack, ask them for a "degaussing rod", or something similar (looks like a soldering iron). All you usually have to do is wave it over the screen, and the colors will return to normal.

Or you picture tube could just be going out

But any mid-priced 27 incher should suffice for now...If you buy a house, you will be looking for a bigger TV. No sense in spending that much for something that will most likely be a seldom used bedroom TV within a couple of years.

Although...My 27"er has slid far enough down the TV food chain to be in the garage now...So maybe I'm not the best person to be replying to this. :flag:

 And I, on the other hand, may not be qualified either, since I probably watched less than two hours of TV last week...

but my kids are getting a new 27" for video games in the den, and I upgraded to the day after Thanksgiving $149 Sylvania for that....

But what the heck-we don't watch what you watch, when you watch, or at your house. Why does our opinion matter in this decision anyway? :flag:

I just bought a 27" Sony. It is awesome. Reg price is $399 plus I got $20 off sale price and I had a $20 off coupon so it was only $359

I am brand loyal also when it comes to TV's Sony and Samsung. That being said.....I think that screw what people say about this TV or that TV....goto the store....and buy the one that looks best to YOU. I think the same thing about speakers too. For some reason, and I will probably be flamed for this....I hate bose speakers. For some reason they sound "tinny" to me???

Buy what looks best to you

Bose is incredibly over-priced crap for the most part. They make some seperates that are amazing, but their systems are a joke...Especially those little cube setups.

tmf, I have a nice new little Sammy DLP that is just the TV-pimp...It's my new brand. Waaaay nice.

you guys are all missing the price point

THIS IS AN HDTV

I know I can get ANY 27 for cheap, but this is HDTV, FLAT SCREEN. and it's one the best values on the market.

of course I'll buy another TV when I get a house. then I's have TWO, instead of ONE. I'm not buying one for "investing in my future house entertainment" I'm buying a TV that won't be outdated in a long time.

If you are buying an HDTV...You really need a widescreen man. That's what it's broadcast in.

With the letterboxing effect that HDTV will have on that 27 incher, it will be more like a 17 incher when watching an HDTV feed.

i own a 32" HDTV 4:3 ratio. Most of the time when you watch TV it is SD so there is no black bars on the screen at that time. The picture is a little small in HD mode but i have a small living room so it looks great, the smaller it is the sharper it is.

Mitsu hands down!! Although I have a Sony 51 widescreen rear-proj. I could afford it versus a Mistu. Im more than happy with the Sony though. HD is the shiite!! One other thing on that TV not being widescreen. On the channels that arent HD, you can set to zoom non HD channels. I dont think a zoomed picture would look to great on a TV thats not widescreen. I dont think zoom or stretch would look right. But if your looking at it solely for the HD pupose I dont think it would be terribly bad.
