getting rid of left over ventvisor tape

What would be the best way to remove leftover tape when removing ventvisors? I took two off and it took me a good 45 mins with acetone, a rag, and my finger to remove it. There has to be a better way. What if I heated them up with a hair dryer before I took them off?

3M makes something just for the purpose of removing old tape and glue without harming the paint...can't remember what it's called though. Bodyshops use it. It comes in a white metal container with red lettering. I got the stuff at the local parts store, it works great. Try going to a nearby parts store and ask about the stuff. If you don't care about harming the paint, brake or carb cleaner will do the trick, but you might lose some of the finish also.

There is a wheel that goes on a high speed drill or grinder that body shops use called an adhesive eraser. They used that when they removed the side mouldings on my other truck. Check it out. Good luck.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Revmover is what budhays3 was thinking about. You can also use some WD-40. "Goo Gone" is another one that works and you can find that at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Using heat to soften the adhesive will help too.

Thanks guys. It is a 03 Escalade I sold to a woman who does not want them and she is gonna pick it up tomorrow I believe. The previous owner (idiot) reversed the left and right side on the front two doors. I got them off one side but it took some effort and I used something called xylene. I thought we had some of the 3M stuff but I could not find any. I can just let the detail guy do it tomorrow but I will tell him to find some of the 3M stuff. Thanks again.

I tried all of the above when I pulled the visors off of my Blazer, and it still took several hours of finger bending, new swear-word generating, fingernail cracking good times.

Never again will I stick anything like that on my trucks.

walmart, 3m adhiesive remover 7$, and some elbow grease for an hour. debadging your turck priceless.

The eraser wheeel from 3M will take most of it off then wipe it with some liquid adhesive remover and it all goes away, no damage to the paint. It doesn't take long at all.

Your friendly auto body supply store should have the following:

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, part number 08984. The "eraser" wheel is also a good product, made for decal and vinyl stripe removal, as well as double sided moulding tape. They run around $25.00, the adhesive cleaner is around $10.00.
