Sirius Sportster & Z71

Newbie here- Great forum.

I'm getting a Sirius Sportster from my wife for Christmas. I think I've figured out where I'm going to mount it. My 2003 Suburban Z71 has the small open box just below the center dash vent. I think the car-kit mount will fit nicely in there, putting the unit right next to the HU.

Anyway, any ideas on how to get the antenna wire outside the vehicle?

I have seen several posts about the "third brake light." The problem with that is the roof-rack. I use it for bikes, skis, etc... I'm afraid that it will get covered up too often if I place the antenna on the back part of the roof.

I would like to mount it on the front part of the roof to one side or the other. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get the wire out from under the dash so I can run it up the weather stripping on the windshield.

Thanks,

DT

DT,

I have seen several people install the antenna on the front of their vehicle. The only way that I have seen it done is they have drilled a small hole in the roof of their vehicle and fed the wire through it and then under the headliner to either side and then you can run the wire through the pillar and under the dash. I ran mine from the 3rd brake light to the pillar under the headliner and it worked great. You have to be real careful when drilling as to not damage the surrounding paint. I have also seen several hard-wired cell phone kits with the external antenna done the same way.

Mine's also run through the 3rd brake light. I'd much rather try to reseal it than to drill a hole in the roof of my 8 month old truck.

thats what im saying, i couldnt bring myself to drill a hole in the roof, hehe.

but i ran mine behind the 3rd brake light, now i have a problem, i dont know where to mount it on the dash cause there isnt many flat spots and if i mount it on the driver side then in need to run the wire down the driver side and the opposite on the other side.
