How do I tell if the radio in my 05 1500 Crew is XM compatible...............?

they all are except the base AM/FM only ones.

If it has a "band" button then it is XM ready.

Yeah just shoot me a pm and I can give you a good deal. It's pretty easy to put in just switch a couple wires around on the harness that goes to the radio. Not too bad at all. The hardest part is putting in the bracket that holds the receiver.

I thought that the radio replacement was a plug and play deal, but when the stealer tried to locate a truck for me, they found one with everything except the XM radio. I said just pull the radio out and put in a unit that has the XM converter. Not so easy, you need to run that antenna to the roof and there's something eles, but it's not a plug and play deal. If your radio gets XM it'll have one of those square XM antennas on the roof.

Not a problem.we run an auto repiar shop...........and I already have an XM Roady in it I just want it to run through the factory radio.

The XM is a separate receiver, you don't have to change the headunit. All you do is add the XM receiver, antenna on the roof, mounting bracket behind the glove box, and the wiring harness, plus switch two wires on the headunit harness. The whole package can be bought as a kit (GM #12498768) and it is plug and play after installation, No reprogramming required. I think the hardest part is mounting the antenna on the roof. (requires drilling the roof)

If you don't want to drill the roof you can you an aftermarket XM antenna that mounts to the glass or one that is magnetic.

Are any of you satisfied with the XM radio programming? I have it in my 03' 1500, but I don't care for it all that much. A friend has Sirius, and I have found that the stations for it seem to be much better. Just wondering.

There's 125 stations and about 85 of them are crap. I don't listen to the "Urban" or "World Music", Discovery, MTV, VH1, christian, reggae or the numerous talk shows. The major city metro traffic reports are handy (I live near Los Angeles), but the reporters sound like their talking in soup can for a microphone.

I definitely like the comedyxl channel and foxnews and I understand major league baseball will also be broadcast via XM?

I have sirius capable radio in my boat and plan to activate it just to see which I like better and get one acct for both truck and boat

Personally I like Sirius much more than the XM in my new Tahoe. I have purchased the kit to connect a Kenwood Sirius unit to the stock head unit with plans to install as soon as I get a nice day.
