C'mon be honest...

I've got this new Sierra with a 4.8L 2WD and I'm thinking about mods already. A word from the wise would be greatly appreciated. What would you NOT do if you had it to do again.

Xenon Eurolites aftermarket bulbs..

They looked really good so i bought a set of lows for my truck.. I put them in and when i turned them on i got this really cool blue glow like the HID's... so close you would think they were.. As soon as i pulled on the street i couldnt see to the end of my driveway..

Now the saying comes in you get what you paid for... I only paid 22 dollars but geeish if i did a lot of night driving i would have to change them back because you honestly cant see a licence plate 3 cars lengths ahead of you!!!

that and my AVS headlight covers.. the amount of times you take them off and put them back on its stupid.. I took them off so many times they got scratched sitting in my cab and when you put them back on they looked like crap so i just left them off...

Any side step bars than are not either platinum (ie. Chrome) or stainless.  Have the Go Rhino Sumatra 4000s....which I got shipped instead of the Maniks I wanted....piece of junk.  Have a lot of rust bubbles on them after less than 2 years on the truck...and a lot of careful washes.  Get Westin, Waag, or Manik...Go-Rhino is crap...their dumb warranty wants you to wash/wax the bars every day...or its void.

Hmm, so other people have had problems w/ gorhino products rusting??? I had my brushbar on my truck for a month before I noticed rust.  So I stripped it down and repainted it w/ rustoleum, then coated it in spray on bedliner.

As for mods I wish I hadn't done:  Spending a lot of money on rancho rs9000 shocks.  It doesn't make sense when I would just be taking them off a year later when I lift the truck.

I haven't had any experience though w/ products that haven't worked.

Thanks for the input guys. It takes alot of guts to admit mistakes with mods to our trucks and I appreciate your response.

I figure I make bad mods to my last truck that amounted to about six hundred bucks. They included engine mods that either didn't make a significant difference or put the engine too far out of spec or were not the best brand to effect the desired result, to mods that required drilling into the bed of the truck that I wish I hadn't done.

The previous truck was not a GM product, so I knew there would be some bad product specific mods out there and I don't want to make mistakes again. Atleast, as few as possible.

Bushwhacker bed rail caps.

I ordered them, but didn't install them because the holes for the stake pockets didn't line up with the bed.  I laid them on the bed rails and didn't like the look of them, so I returned them.  I'm glad I did, because since then, I've heard lots of people having problems with them not staying on the truck securely.

I have the GM bed rail caps now and I'm very happy with them.

I didn't think through the order in which I would do the mods.  I should have visualized better what I wanted the finished product to look like, then make a plan.  Instead, I bought 33"x12.5 tires with a 3" body lift.  The tires rubbed, so I spend more money on the suspension lift, and now more taking OFF the body lift (cuz I don't want bigger tires).  All that money could have gone to a nice grille and nerf bars, but I am now waiting on that.

So, quality stuff, just bad planning on my part.  I would say, know what you are going to do before you do it.  Of course you may change your mind down the road, but SOME planning is better than none.

my 2 cents.

A sunroof.  I had a sunroof installed in an S-10 I had a while back.  Paid big bucks for one with a lifetime warranty.  When a part broke I went back about a year later and the place that had installed it went out of business.  I managed to fix it my self, but being in the car industry for a while, I now know that any sunroof WILL leak after time.  I also didn't get an interior cover for it so it turned my truck into a greenhouse.  During the summer, the A/C had a heck of a time keeping it cool.

Subwoofer...got a set of 200 watt 10" Boss subs and an amp from a couple friends, spent 3 evenings making a box sized for the volume of air space required for the speakers.  It's huge, so it takes up all the space behind my 3rd seat, and it only really boosts the bass drum beat, doesn't do much for frequencies above that...

Alot of work for NOT the desired result.  Maybe I'll by a nice set of 6X9s and use them with the amp...I dunno...
