Tailgate weight capacity?

Can anyone tell me the maximum weight I can put on the tailgate of a 94 K1500?

I would like to be able to haul my tractor, a Kubota BX2200, in the back of my truck, but all the ramps I can find attach to the tailgate.

The tractor weighs 1290 lbs without the loader, and I think it's about 1500 lbs with the loader. This seems like a lot of weight to put on the tailgate, but I don't know for sure.

I'd think that amount of weight could break something, but that's just what I would assume. However you might try putting a stack of wood blocks or something under the tailgate for additional support, something to try, anyway. Over on the Nissan Titan forums I saw one guy put an additional set of cables on his tailgate so he wouldn't have to worry about it supporting his four wheeler, of course his four wheeler didn't weight any 1500 pounds.

I think the tailgate would bend, collapse, crumble under that kind of weight. The cables may hold but the actual gate would collapse (In my opinion of course cause I would never try it to see what happens.)

If I remember right, the tailgate capacity is around 600lbs.

take the tailgate off and put the ramps up to the end of the bed and rest them on the bumper....preferably planks for to match some of the height difference or lay a board underneath it. 1500 lbs and you call that a tractor??? That's a little compact thing, isn't it.

Pardon me for being ignorant....but exactly what was wrong with the old style tailgate brackets ? Why did they go to cables anyway ? I can't understand changes like that.

That's OK, I guess it is kinda cute.

It was the smallest I could find with a loader, 3 pt hitch and dual PTO, which most garden tractors don't have. I've only got 7 acres, so I don't need a real tractor.

As a bonus, I can still use it to mow the lawn (the loader comes off easily)
