Got new shocks

Well after several days of research, I decided to buy Monroe Reflex shocks for my 1997 Tahoe 2dr 4x4 I made plans with a friend to help me put them on tonight. I go out today to buy them, and no place had them in stock, so I finnaly bought Gabriel Ultras. With my time constraints I really needed them today Anyone ever use the Gabriels, or have any knoledge on them?

I put trailmaster SSVs on my 99 2 door and they are excellent. Really made the truck handle better and no more body roll on braking and corners.

I'm shock-shopping myself and would like to hear your review of these shocks after the install. On a side note, Carquest states that their shocks are made by Gabriel. I did not see a comparable model to the Max Control, but by eye-balling the pictures and reading the descriptions, the Ultras could be comparable to their premium light truck model. No idea of pricing though (no Carquest close to me).

The Monroe Reflex is not designed for trucks (or Tahoes), you can use them on the trucks, but you will not be happy with results. I used the gabrils on a truck in the past and liked them, but on my current truck, I choose the KYB's.

I installed them tonight. On my drive home it was about 50/50 highway drive, and city, maybe 20 miles in all. I must say that they do seem to be a more firm ride, but I think that was to be expected, my old shocks were shot. The handeling of my Tahoe is incredibly better, no more drifting or floating on the highway, it doesnt roll in turns. I was begging to think that something was wrong with my steering, but I guess it was just the shocks. It really does drive like a different truck now. If I could have found the KYB Monomax at a local store, I would have bought them, but I think I will be happy with these Gabriel Ultras. I plan on towing my boat in the next couple of days, and that will be what is my deciding factor in my choice.

Reflex not for trucks/SUV's??????

There is a passenger car version and and truck/SUV version

Monroe, Rancho are Tenneco companies

All nice priced performing shocks.

Highway cruising...Reflex

Daily intown driver...Sensa-Trac

Trail...Rancho RS5000

Off-Road...Rancho RS9000

Higher end shocks Bilstein are very good, maybe a little harsh for highway cruising and definite overkill for daily intown driver.

The Reflex technology was actually tested/released first in the Rancho RSX. It uses the same valving that the Monroe Reflex uses (both Rancho and Monroe are Tenneco as was stated before). Not sure about other differences except the RSX allows for some greater shock travel (?) and maybe a wider ranger of choices for individual applications.

Also, it looks like Rancho still has the buy 3/1 free deal going. I'm goning to give the RSXs a shot.
