well, since i work for a Honda dealer, i recieved our first Ridgeline tonight. it is the base model, so no fancy features to report... here are just a few of my opinions about the car. along with some observations.

 

it looks pretty mean from the front end, and the overal "look" is kinda like an Avalanch. BUT, the size is not even close to the size of a fullsize truck!!! it is slightly taller than my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited... so if everyone thought that this truck was huge, ITS NOT!

 

the bed is by far the coolest i have ever seen. with a flip down tailgate, u get 5' of bed. the tailgate also acts as a door, and can swing open! how neat is that! also, there is a HUGE storage compartment under the floor of the bed. the spare sits neatly tucked inside on a sliding tray. the other half of the bed goes down about 2ft where u can pretty much put a grown male in!!! just for one of those nights when u go on a "spree" of some sort..LOL

 

the interior is basicaly like the Element. the seats are rough. the dash is rock solid. very easy to locate buttons and sh!t. there are a s**t ton of storage locations and combinations. two power outlets. nice dash. very supporting seats. plenty of room for rear passengers too! the back has a sliding glass window b/w tailgate.

 

i didn't get a chance to drive it. the boss came and took the keys... knowing im a big truck fan, i woulda tested that bish out! LOL

 

well, thats all for now... i'll post more as i learn more about it...

You know on the job sites, (I install carpet in new homes) there is one guy who I think may be an electrical sub, that drives a Titan. EVERYONE AND I MEAN EVERYONE else drives American made trucks. I've talked to several other guys on the job site, and we have all commented on how this one guy with a Jap Titan just looks so out of place.

About once a week I'll pull in to a new houseing addition and I'll see all these good looking hard workin dirty American made real trucks, and then there will be this one cute little Titan that just looks out of place.

I really don't know what my point is, but it seems like almost everyone that buys a Jap made truck, don't buy them to work out of, they buy them to..........well I really don't know why they buy them.

Are you saying that with the tailgate closed you have a 5' bed, or you need to put the tailgate down to get a 5' bed? I'm sure a lot of people will buy them because most truck owners don't really use them to haul heavy loads or loose materials. Just like there is a boom in crossover SUVs, there will probably be growth in crossover trucks.

LOL the storage area "under" the bed has the safety release latch incase somebody stuffs you in there. It also doubles as a cooler, with a drain plug in the bottom. It's a 5' bed with the gate closed. The two that we got are both fully loaded (moon roof, electric beer window, heated seats, all your Honda gizmos), and every dealer option was added. I haven't driven one yet but I'm sure it's just as good of a ride as the Pilot. When I do I'll be sure to see if it will climb the hill out back. As far as power this engine hauls ass in the Pilot, so I'm sure this will too. As far a torque, I doubt it's there. But like I said before, Honda made this truck for a very specific part of the market, and I think they did a good job. It's just ugly though.

And nothin is made compeltly in the USA anymore, but the Titan is a Japanese engineered vehical.

And it is still small compared to American engineered trucks. And it dosen't make power like an American engineered...i.e. low end torque.

379 ft-lbs at 3600 seems pretty torquey for a rice burning jap truck :(

 

versus a comprable '05 5.3 equipped GM half ton making 335ft-lbs at 4000rpm

 

sounds to me like japan did their homework and made some d**n nice trucks, and they didnt forget the low-end torque that american trucks are so famous for

 

sure, they dont offer the Titan/Tundra etc...with a diesel or higher output option, but I see it coming

 

Sure I drive a chevy, but its about time the imports get some respect in the truck world :chevy:

Mark I hate to correct you again, but your wrong.

 

1) The Titan was designed by American Engineers in Calif, it was built in the USA, and built with American parts.

 

2) The Titan is the biggest truck in 1/2 ton size out. The roomiest interior in its class, the 2nd largest towing capacity (1st largest in 4x4), etc. It has the most powerful engine in its class which is also made in a plant in the USA. It has more low end torque than any competitor in its class.

hate to break it to you guys, but Titan tx is correct about the Titan being the most american made truck, it was actually mentioned an an Automotive artilvce I read a while back. it was even designed in america.....first introduced in America, and market data used to build it was collected where? America.....

 

In fact, if you took all the name badges off all the trucks, the Titan would be the most "American"....the thing is built in Mississippi for goodness sake, our GM's got engine being build in Mexico, ......

 

if you are such a partiot that would MUST drive a america car, then your best bet isn't solely an American company anymore...just as the Honda Accord has more american made/built components of any "car" on the market.

 

 

Look at chrysler, it's european owned, the GTO was designed and built in Austrailia, Ford shares a a huge parts list with their european models and manufactuers, the F body was built in Canada.....

All I can say is that my wifes Honda Minivan (Odyssey) is a great running van... It's fun to surprise the guy next to you at the red light with the power it has.

 

Before this van we had 2 different GM minivans, and I was very dissapointed with them (especially the resale value).

Nissan is a Jap company. The profits from Titans go to the Japs. I consider the Titan a foreign truck. How is his truck more foreign? It is assembled in the U.S. and made by an American company.

American Diesels, compared to the diesels not sold in america, aren'y that great...... have you seen some of the Outputs for the new German Turbodiesels? HOLY FRIGGIN COW!!!! and they get better MPG's too. and LOT"s better technology, especially with the Direct Injection so many are running, with variable valve timing, lift control etc etc.......our American truck deisles don't have anything like that.

 

You know Caddy's are going to be sold with BMW made diesels in europe in a few years? why? because GM dosen't make anything close.

I don't think your getting the Titan crowds' point......devil's advocate hat on....... :cry:

 

"it's not even sold in Japan....it's assembled soley by american workers.....now why would I support the Mexican auto workers by buying a GM, when I could support American autoworkers, and get a biger, more powerful, more modern truck?"

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
