Auto unlock feature

...change the program? As it is now my 2000 Z71 only auto-unlocks the doors when I take the key out of the ignition. I looked in my owner's manual and they said this is the default programming from the factory and to see my dealer for more details. I heard there's a program where the doors will unlock when you put the truck in park, that's the one I'm looking for.

While I'm on this subject, all my company vehicles have been Fords and they've all been junk but, they provide a manual override so when you pull the door handle from the inside it automatically unlocks the door. Why doesn't GM have this? After all this time of ownership I still stop in a parking lot and go to get out just to yank on a dead door handle. Furthermore, what would happen in the case of an accident where for whatever reason the electric door locks failed to work and my door won't open!

No, that's the point of this thread. I only have an electric door lock switch on the door panel. If the door is locked and the electric lock failed to operate for some reason after an accident there is no manual override that will unlock the door.

Slide the manual lock button to unlock, just like you would if it didn't have power locks.

LMAO...I got the door lock mechanisms mixed up between my truck and my company E150. The E150 had the post style lock up on top of the door panel that you couldn't grab once it was down but I liked how when you pulled the door handle the door would unlock.

At any rate, what I'm primarily concerned with is finding out if there's a way I can program the locks to auto-unlock when I put the truck in park instead of having to remove the key from the ignition.

check your manual, I had one and there is a way but it's a combination of taps to the gas pedal or brake pedal or something like that with key on engine off

that's how you change the program

Beginning with the ignition in off, pull back on the turn signal/multifunction lever all the way toward you and hold it while you perform the next step.

turn your key to on and off twice. Then, with the key in off, release the turn signal/multifunction lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock switch lock and unluck

You are now ready to program the automatic door locks. Select one of the following four programming options and follow the instructions. You will have ten seconds to begin programming. If you exceed the ten second limit, the locks will automatically lock and unlock to indicate you have left the program mode. If this occurs, repeat the procedures beginning with step 1.

The following is a lit of available programming options:

ALL DOORS LOCK/ONLY DRIVER'S DOOR UNLOCKS: press the lock side of the power locks switch on the door panel once and then unlocks side once.

ALL DOORS LOCK/ALL DOORS UNLOCK: Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel once, then the unlock side twice (this is the factory setting)

ALL DOORS LOCK/NONE OF THE DOORS UNLOCK: Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side three times.

NO DOORS LOCK/NONE OF THE DOORS UNLOCK: Press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel twice. This turns off the automatic lock feature.

My wife has a 2003 Monte Carlo and we reprogrammed the locks and alarm stuff through the radio.

From what I unserstand it will only work with 2000 to 2002. I typed that out to help a guy with a new body style 99, but it did not work. That came out of the manual for my old truck which was a 2000. You can try it, but I don't think it will work for a 98.

I have a '99 Sierra new style and I know you need to install a module to unlock the doors when you put it in park. I saw it on this site- R&D auto door unlock. Does anybody know where I can get one?

R&D is out of bsuiness, but they pop up on Ebay now and then.
